Sylar wandered absentmindedly down the hall, a book propped in one hand, eyes glued to it. He did not need to look where he was going - he had walked these hallways enough times that he knew exactly how many steps, by feel, it took to reach the top of the stairs, and in which direction. He walked steadily, unfaltering, shoes tapping softly on the staircase as he descended, eyes never wavering from the pages of his book. He did not read the book - no, he had no time for novels - but he found that walking around making no eye-contact was generally considered rude. If there was anything he did not want, it was to make enemies of an entire class of superheroes. He was strong, but only in his mind. His weak body severely handicapped him. He could not fight this school. Not yet.

And so he walked the halls with his nose stuck in a book, making contact with no one.

When he heard the soft voices of newcomers, however, he raised his gaze to stare down upon the lobby towards which he descended. Yuki, and Sparky, and two girls he did not recognize stood together, talking about the school. About its function. Sylar's lips twitched up in amusement. This was why he had left his rooms, which were really more like a private library than a place to sleep. He enjoyed having advantages over others. It was best to gain that advantage before the girls found out about his powers, and began trying to avoid him.

Hitting the lobby floor, he tucked his book under his arm and approached the little group. When he spoke, it was in a voice which nearly whispered, just barely loud enough for the group to hear him. He did not need to be ostentatious. He just needed them to look up, to meet his gaze for one short instant, and then he would know everything which was running through their head right now. He would know their powers.

He would know why they were here.
