It didn't take long for Walter to mount up a response to Albert's slightly snide challenge. "No Sir, weapons first." Walter had no desire to abuse anyone, but he knew that if they managed to get away from Niclas again, as they surely had, they would be shot on sight the next time they met.

He understood the danger of turning the vehicle around and heading back into town for weapons, but these items would be crucial to their success. The answer to the dilemma soon presented itself to the four renegades. "What is that!!" Walter exclaimed loudly.

The vehicle was quickly approaching the last guard post which stood just outside Salzburg.

The post consisted of two small white buildings on either side of the road, and a long white wooden pole which had been lowered to connect the two structures. The stations were manned by two Austrian guards-One to each booth.

"Pull the car over!!" Walter commanded. Albert reluctantly pulled the vehicle over to the side of the dirt road.

"Why are we stopping here professor?" Albert said with a hint of sarcasm and accusation in his tone. The two of them exchanged harsh glances before Walter climbed into the drivers seat of the VW truck.

"Those guard stations are usually stocked with weapons in case someone tries to break through the blockade. Take the girl's body out of the back."

Walter turned to the others. "I don't intend to drive through the post.....Well, not exactly." Turning to face the road ahead Walter stepped on the accelerator. Like a shot from a gun Walter drove the vehicle at top speed toward the booth on the left side of the road.

The two soldiers attending the post ran out of their buildings with their riffles in hand. The two men ran to the center of the long white pole-Obviously thinking that the driver intended to run their post. To their surprise the man driving the vehicle turned to the right and went up on the small embankment.

Then Walter turned the steering wheel to the left with the intention of crashing into the small structure. The vehicle was just about to jump down from the small incline when Walter ejected himself from the driving seat, the truck crashed into the rickety structure; destroying it completely.

Walter had jumped from the vehicle and rolled down the small hill with weapon in hand. The soldiers lost sight of the driver in the confusion, allowing Walter to gain the upper hand.
