Charlotte's mother, Gardenia Scarborough, jump up and gave them hugs but her father.... Well Eugene Scarborough was always a very old fashioned fox. He believed you worked for your money, and that things took time. When Thomas said they were engaged Mr.Scarborough didn't move. He just sat there and watched as his lovely wife gave them hugs. "Well then these are congratulation cookies!" Charlotte's mother exclaimed! As she walked back over to her seat next to her husband she put her hand on his. Eugene slipped his hand back from under Gardenia's. As Mr.Scarborough pushed his chair out, he walked outside into the backyard.

Charlotte watched her father, for it was him she was worried about. He didn't seem very happy, though her mother was the opposite. Growing up with them she had always wondered how they got along being so different. "My mother always looks on the brighter side of things, but my father is a realist." She whispered to Thomas. As she gave her mother a hug she could tell her mother was extra excited. "Yes mom, I'm really happy." She smiled. Then her father left the room, leaving was always his cope-ing tactic. "I'll be back.." She mumbled as she opened her sliding doors. "Dad.. I..." She started to say as she saw her father looking off their deck. "My baby girl is officially growing up! I mean you only moved out a year ago! And you've known this man for how long? do you know about his family? where are you guys gonna live?! Honey I'm just worried for you.." Her father blurted. At this point both her father and herself were crying. Her father hugged her, one of those tight hugs that really mean you care.

Then they both turned as they heard the screen doors open again. It was Thomas and her mother. "Daddy... This is Thomas." She halfheartedly smiled. She knew he was strict and was crossing her fingers behind her back, hoping he would approve.
