She was an abnormality . . . ? The stranger’s words, she understood none of them, his reasoning. All of it was so strange to her, and it was hard for her to even comprehend. She was not at all uncommon; she was not a special soul, not at all. Simple, she was what she was, just a girl who was better off to everyone acting as a simple marionette. By trying to move her own strings, she just made everything around her more complicated and difficult, it was only when she listened to the volition of others that anything turned out all right, that things remained as they should. By her choosing to plead for Louis’ life . . . she’d cursed everything to become that much more insane, all of became so confusing, overwhelming and too much.

It all led to this, to her feeling as if she’d caught fire, even expelling fire from her own body, from her own flesh as if it were within her. Cináed was not in any way an uncommon life form, if anything, she was a leech. That was what she was born to be, raised to be. A simple, ordinary leech. The value of life was not something she considered when she’d offered herself up to the Dhampir, not at all. She’d considered what might be the best outcome to the situation. Those actions of hers seemed the closest to what Violetta had instructed of her before everything spun out of control.

An unnatural warmth still permeated her aching body, and her she felt even more uncertain than she had before. Everything that had happened was simply too much! The redhead turned her green gaze away from the odd man and looked to the dimly lit ground near her, her eyes held a vacancy to them still. All that had happened, all she’d been told, it still confused her and it left her uncertain and without any idea of the truth. Before her stood someone whom thought she had the answer to complicated questions, a man who looked more machine than the former . . . he didn’t look as if he were human. I attempted to hand my own life over in exchange for his because it was all I thought proper to do.

“What reason would I have had to want his death? I simply acted as best I could, treading along closest to the guidelines given to me by the one I would call my birth mother.” She answered. “There was nothing remarked about my course of action tonight, all my choices only served to further complicate everything which transpired.”
