Alice frowned briefly at the comment about secrets... but that frown became a tiny smile. It was true. Unfortunately... those secrets everyone had? She knew most of them. Would likely know all of them by the end of the week. That was simply the way Alice's life worked. Secrets seemed to fall into her lap, whether she wanted them to or not. It got her in trouble sometimes. Never trouble she could not get out of.

There was no such thing as trouble Alice Chen could not get out of.

"Everyone has secrets," Alice agreed calmly. "I know that. Better than most."

Alice took another step closer to the hull, examining the thing. Good construction, right down to the paint job. This fighter would not fail.
"A good ship," Alice observed calmly. "She'll take you far."

Quietly, Alice checked her timepiece. They had some space before they were meant to report, as requested by Captain Dunaway. What he hoped to brief them on, she did not know. No one knew the purpose of this mission. No one.

"Peyton," she murmured, calling the pilot's attention back to her. "I was wondering if you would join me in my quarters tonight, for dinner?" She looked up at Tiaan, dark eyes calm. She reached into the pocket of her uniform and produced a scrunchy. In half an hour's time she would be back on full duty, at the briefing. She had to look like the officer she was. And Lieutenant Commander Chen never let her hair down, even if Alice Chen did. Alice flicked Peyton yet another tiny smile. Almost the smile of someone scared to share things. Almost. More the smile of someone who did not know how to smile. "I have a lot of open bottles in my cabinets. There's no way I'm going to be able to drink them all before they go to waste. At least, not on my own."

More than an invitation - a finally confirmation that Alice was not at all upset about Tiaan's conduct the night before. Why Alice was not upset by it, however, Tiaan could - and would - never know.
