Valerie watched as Blythe and Aidan argued, somewhat amused by their chatter. She listened quietly to the conversation, but caught the word 'demonic'. They were demons. No wonder they had such remarkable strength and speed, but. . . they couldn't be. Demons didn't exist. . . right? She was just ready to shake the thought from her mind that she realized that they were probably telling the truth. What right did she have in remembering what was real and what wasn't. The world was destroyed for all she knew.

She was sorting through her thoughts when a blonde girl adjacent to her spoke softly, praying to the Lord. She managed a dry laugh when Aidan came back with a smart retort. Now was not the time for that. She heard Blythe speak of escaping but only if they could get themselves out. Valerie pulled her hands in front of her and wiggled her fingers. "Okay, Blythe. I got myself out, but what if I can't get myself up?" She motioned to her blood stained and mangled leg.
