Second Pirate Frigate

The hangar only had empty gunships; their pilots were either dead or missing. Nothing else was of much interest to the squad. They left the hangar, only to enter a maze of passageways, which was characteristic of ship corridors. One wrong step and they would be inside a nuclear waste storage room, although on pirate ships, nuclear waste storages weren’t that common.

“Jesus, don’t they have maps on these ships?” Eli wondered aloud as his eyes darted back and forth, waiting for any pirates to ambush them. The squad had been patrolling the various halls; it seemed as if most of the crew was perhaps obliterated in the railgun blasts. Eli had expected plenty of hostiles though, for the blasts had only damaged the external hull of the frigate, thus disabling further movement.

“Doubt it sir, pirates aren’t that smart,” Reynolds let his guard down, lowering his rifle. By now they were just sight-seeing through the pirate ship. The wandering corridors continued on like a winding labyrinth of steel.

“Just because they’re pirates doesn’t mean they’re not smart or anything,” Weifert kept walking.

“Generally…though, pirates are pretty dumb,”

“Where’d you find that? A women’s health article?” it was clearly a jest on Weifert’s part to alleviate the moment which was either strewn with tension or boredom. Currently, it was the latter. Unfortunately, Reynolds, who was only two ranks above a private, therefore still considered a rookie, took it as a challenge. Stark, on the other hand was annoyed at Weifert's lack of taste. Clearly, the lance corporal had failed to garner any laughs as the two higher up Marines, Sergeant Carter and Captain Colter weren't paying any attention.

“Don’t even go there pal,”

“Quiet…” Eli raised his forefinger signaling his call for silence, the others paused and prepared their weapons.

From beyond the corridor, Eli heard a repetitive thud. The dull sound was followed by a sharp creaking, followed by running footsteps. The footsteps slowly disappeared into silence.

“You guys hear that?” Eli turned to the others. They’re weapons were aimed, and their backs were arched, forward.

“Turn on your tactical,” Eli turned to his gauntlet, and pressed a button which activated the targeting system in his helmet. The circular target acquisition unit blinked in the center of his view, it would lock onto a target once a hostile was found.

“Carter, take point with that shotgun,” the Captain knew of its capabilities, anything with a blast of that magnitude coupled with a high firing rate was needed in the vanguard, used to clear the way.
