Second Pirate Frigate
A slight shot of adrenaline began to kick in, as several blasts came from Carter’s shotgun. The rounds blasted a chunk out of the cover that the pirates were hiding behind. As he fired his rounds, Stark and Weifert were quick to slip over to the other corner, sliding against the wall quickly.
“Alternate,” Eli was careful not to blurt it over the helmet comms. The speakers were located right by a Marine’s ear, yelling over the comms was guaranteed to deafen auditory senses.
Carter pulled out after his slugs, and then Weifert fired his Infantry Automatic Rifle. The IAR belonged to a family of gas operated, and magazine fed weapons soon to be replaced by laser and pulse rifles that were being developed. The rounds came from the IAR in quick bursts of seven rounds, which pinned down the pirates who were using projectile weapons of their own.
“Alternate,” the very reason for the alternating firing sequences allowed for the pairs to cover each other while the other needed to reload. Plus, Eli liked the touch up of professionalism. Stark quickly took over for Weifert, as Eli switched with Carter. Reynolds stood as rear guard, covering the corridor from which the squad came to prevent flanking.
Five slugs, three hits, the pirate’s chest was blown through by Eli, while Adriana’s personal weapon, blasted a chunk through the barrier, hitting the other raider behind it. Eli blinked, he didn't expect that from Stark's weapon, considering the cauterization of the raider's chest.
“Whoa, mama,” Weifert laughed. “You’re packing a punch in that baby,” he nodded at Stark’s photon rifle.
“Well,” the corridor was clear, and Stark was free to roam past the pair of corpses, “Somebody has to," she mumbled to herself. She wasn't exactly one for words, and in the current situation, the only words that needed to be spoken were those from Eli.
“Yeah, are you allowed to use that thing?” Reynolds asked, kicking the corpse a bit. Adriana didn't give a reply, the answer was pretty obvious.
“This corridor is clear, I think the bridge is that way,” Eli pointed down the open corridor. “Sarge, you’re covering rear, and Stark, you’re taking point now,”
“As usual…” Adriana mused mildly, the squad continued moving.
