Amber sat quietly at her desk, her back well rested against the chair as she browsed through the morning papers. The air inside was still and calm, save from the sounds of muffled footsteps and conversations that occasionally come and go from outside. It usually isn’t always this quiet though, the empty desk was filled by her partner, Philippe Deladrier, a frenchman whom she found to be a little too brash and loud for her liking so far.

The air-conditioned office has done a pretty fine job so far of sheltering her from the city that has been getting pummeled by the unbearable heat and the plague of supernatural violence. For an aspiring wizard like herself, there couldn’t be a better and more dangerous proving ground than this.

Amber was merely into her second week and the city was already spiraling into a war zone. Out on the main floor, FBI agents were scrambling to keep up with the list of federal offenses committed for the day. Phones buzzed constantly, usually pleas from the local police departments for more federal assistance. The SOB would be providing much needed reinforcements to quell the vampiric insurrection by as early as next week, a huge relief to the agents here.

Even so, she was not impressed– the heat wave was signaling something else was coming to town, and it is going to be big.

“Amber,” the office doors swung wide open loudly. “Last week’s cases from the OD.”

“Thanks Judy,” Amber replied, slightly dazed. The doors closed promptly after.

Judith Meyer was her personal secretary, not exactly personal per se; she is shared between herself and her partner, but her secretary nonetheless. A WAAC Operator during the Second World War, mundane mechanical tasks such as these were almost second nature to Judy.

Diligently, Amber flipped open the files and began scouring the pages for clues and leads. For a team of two dealing with dozens of cases a week, priorities were paramount. She needed to deal with the city’s largest threat. ‘Demonic’ and ‘infernal’ were the words that came to mind– nothing else in the supernatural world could possess the power to form a weather anomaly like this, certainly not the vampires.

It didn’t take too long to find what she was looking for: a person of interest. Henry Juniper, outed demon. Claims to have some form of information of the demonic establishment planning something big, something about a link between the Sandlot and the city. This was worse than she could’ve thought. Immediately, Amber picked up the phone and dialed for the PPDOD.

“FBI Specialist Amber Haydon, badge two-five-zero-eight,” she glanced at her contact list. “Can I have Detective Phillip Collins on the line please?”
