Pain.

Dying.

Family.

Blurred red tinted imagines swirled through Kathrine's sub conscience mind, haunting her not only when she was awake but while she slumbered. She saw her family, waiting at home, looking out at the horizen, waiting for her lone shadowed figure to appear and return to them. But it never appeared, and one by one they slowly lay on the ground, pressing their faces against the dirt until each of them were face down on the earth. Then, before Kat's very eyes, they began to wither away just like in the video she'd watched in school. Their bodiests decomposed, ravaged in fast motion by animals and the elements until they, her family, were nothing but bones. Pale, milky white bones left to bake in the intense sun that hung onimously above them like an evil, glowing eye with it's giant gaze casting rays upon them.

'Here Kitty Kitty, alone alone~ Kitty come home, home, Kitty come home~'
Their sweet, whispered, sing-song voices called,
'Back to your palace, safe and warm~ Come home Kitty, Kitty come home~'
Singing in a chorus the song they fasioned to call their cats back home at the end of the day.
'Kitty-Kat come home~ Kat come home~ Home home, Kat come home~'
Though the landscape was barren save for the bones with now littered the floor.

~~~~~~~
Kat sat up suddenly, panting, her eyes darting wildly around the dim room as her eyes adjusted to the almost none existant light which illuminated from the wee hours of the morning. Her body was drenched in a cold sweat so her messy hair stuck to the back of her neck. Glancing down she found she had, in her panic, pulverized the bean bag she'd been sleeping on which had caused it to burst, splitting dried beans and fluff over the floor. Additionally she had ripped the blanket ('When did I get a blanket?') which had been carefully drapped over her previously sleeping form. Quietly she sunk back into her previous position, laying on her back, sprawled out a little bit now in an attempt to cool off.
Slowly Kat's heart rate dropped back to normal as she did a few after thought breathing exersizes and she placed a shaking hand on her forehead, squeezing her eyes shut, trying to get the haunting tune out of her head. It had been twisted from an innocent, childhood rhyme sung by her precious family to a malicious siren's song sung by the ghosts of darkness this illness had left in their place, luring Kat into a place she'd dared not traverse to, even if it was her supposed family doing the taunting. Kat needed to stay strong; for their sake, otherwised they'd get pulled into the shadows of this disease too.
