Many of the crew members knew that the Salient was going to be destroyed, and they would die with it. The ship had only left the factories on Earth merely weeks ago. Rather than accept the inevitable defeat, though, they continued working diligently as the Admiral oversaw them with eyes like a hawk. It seemed like his hour was coming.

"Sir we're receiving fire from the their front line!" yelled one of the crewmen.

"Return fire, soldier!" Aronimus responded, his earlier countenance was of a calm stone. Now it seemed as if that had completely faded, now he seemed like a tempest in the bridge.

"Navigator Summer, set the FTL jump to the Arcturus System. I want you to keep me posted with the countdown until the jump."

Then the ship rocked, jarring several crew members off balance, even Aronimus had to grip the railing.

"Sir, they're piercing the outer layer of the neosteel plating," blurted one of the personnel.

The line of pirate ships began to form, an oddity in itself, as pirates often preferred hit-and-run, and ambush attacks. This seemed more organized, but Aronimus expected as much, seeing as how Eturrer was commanding the pirate fleet.

The cannons of the pirate ships fired at once, the ghastly affect of their tachyon fire began to rip apart several plates from the Salient's hull. On top of that, the crew received another hit, which rocked the ship once more.

"Lieutenant Napier! Report!"

"Sir, we've been hit, but it wasn't a projectile or energy weapon. Here, let me play the feed." the JG typed several keys on the haptic interface, and a giant holographic screen flew into the air in the middle of the bridge.

The feed showed the starboard section of the Salient being impacted by a flying object. Upon closer inspection, Aronimus realized it was a fighter ship, which had lunged itself into the Salient, not because of a broken wing. The impact tore apart multiple plates on the exterior hull, continued use of this method would eventually ply away the exterior and reach the interior skeleton of the Salient.

"Kamikaze..." Aronimus' eyes narrowed, "A desperate tactic, but it acquires results..."

Eturrer was the kind of Admiral who did not care how many casualties he received as long as he garnered results. That was his method of commanding, and that was how he reached such a level in the Federation Navy. Although some objected to his style because one of the tenants of the Federation Armed Forces was to reduce casualties at all costs.

Now that Eturrer had thrown off the chains of being apart of the Federation Navy, he can operate and command freely without any restrictions. Few realized, however, that his methods did not endanger those under him.

His kamikaze strategy only destroyed fighters; the pilots would eject before impact, and a friendly fighter would quickly retrieve the pilot. He wasted materials, but not manpower; Aronimus knew this, after studying multitudes of Eturrer's combat logs during his early years as an Admiral.
