John attempted to listen as Alex recalled bits and pieces of some sort of story about tonic. He frowned, trying to make sense of this, and eventually grunted in exasperation. Part of the block was the attempt to hide things in Alex's untrust of him. The thoughts coming off both Elle and Alex made his head hurt, so he had to look away for a few minutes, muddling things over. They both sort of had a block, but Elle's was more of a sheet. She remembered things, but it was obscured with confusion. Alex was like a solid unmoving brick wall. Simple thoughts, like weather, food, water, milled around outside this brick wall. But anything past that wall was untouchable. He turned turned to Alex again. "What can I do to make you trust me?" he asked, picking up a stick and amusing himself by picking the bark off. Watching as Elle seemed to continue to puzzle over something.
