Samara's feet were shuffling, eager to leave the town. As she stepped out onto the street, the dull glow of the streetlamp enshrouded them in safety, she looked back at the hotel's windows. It was one thing to steal a man's food or some meds, but to take his absolute life-source in this world was another thing entirely. And if he was awaken and discover what she had done, then she assumed he would no longer be the gentlemen he was the night before. She watched, listened and nodded as Blake spoke. He was a good leader and Samara felt as content as she could in this life, when he was around. She shivered in the cold and tightened her jacket's grip on her skin, pulling the front closer.

Samara went to speak, to ask Blake what the plan was from here, glancing back at the hotel when a strange woman approached and strode beside Blake as he moved slowly into the darkness. Samara froze, eyes narrowed at the stranger. She looked like a raider. A tribes-member. Undoubtedly a fierce, well-adapted woman. Samara had seen them many times in her scavenges and on one occasion been in direct contact. Her skin erupted in goosebumps at the memory as Sam shook the thought away, hurrying behind them to listen to their conversation. She heard the woman agree to Blake's conditions on joining their group and before she could open to object, to inform Blake that the raiders could not be trusted, shrieks filled the air behind them.

Samara spun and felt her heart pound against her chest. The town, the tavern had lost it's lights and the nightcrawlers had been the ones to shriek in delight. The terrified screams of agony did not come from them as the town was ransacked by dripping jaws and claws. And when Samara looked back at the hotel, she swore she could see the man in the window staring at her. Sam's eyes widened and she choked on her gasp as she turned again. "We can't stop... There is nothing we can do..." She heard Blake say solemnly and for the first time Samara agreed. And the guilty acid in her stomach gurgled and spluttered, causing Sam to wince.

She listened as the intruding raider-woman spoke and funnily enough, agreed as well. The town's demise did give them time to escape, but it made the choice no easier. "This... I don't..." Sam muttered, her morality battling with her will to live. Her torch was trembling in her fingertips and her lungs felt tight as if a steel hand had them within it's grasp. She shone it at Eve, at Blake and Mike and the raider. We have to help them... Their faces gave her nothing, Eve's been the most gentle and affected by the town's doom. Sam took a deep breath, realising her moral sense was something only she knew and it was foolish. So she pulled her goggles up, put her head down and cried silently as she walked.
