Ariana walked along the still, and crowded yet empty streets. She still couldn’t believe that the world suddenly stopped- or at least that’s the conclusion she pulled. Ralph followed behind her, now horsed and tired from all the barking; he was panting, too lazy to slurp up whatever was dripping from his mouth. “I wonder if this happens all the time, yet we don’t realize it.” She said, mainly to herself and Ralph.

“Perhaps it’s just different people who get affected each time. Kind of like Gods playing a game?” Ariana was now just throwing out random thoughts- maybe the idea of whatever Gods are out there playing games wasn’t such a ridiculous idea than she thought? Or maybe she was just playing around; even Ariana herself didn’t know what to think at this point- throwing out random ideas was the only thing that kept her calm.

Ralph stopped to sniff the ground, before letting out a low whimper and ran ahead; he released a semi-bark whine that he’d often let out when he sees something. The first thing Ariana thought of was, did Ralph find something? Before she could reason out with her inner-self, Ariana found herself nearly sprinting after Ralph.

“Ralph!” She yelled, as she exited the small town that she lived in; now entering the highway that usually took them to the city- which, at the moment, was five miles away. She stopped as soon as her eyes met a red car, realizing how alone she really was at the moment. Everything was still- almost as if it was all frozen in their tracks.

Ariana placed her hand on a black van and peered into the window; the image of a family with their children all smiling and laughing nearly sent chills down her spine. She walked forward, trying to ignore the frozen bodies that lied in the cars and try to pay attention to Ralph’s endless barking than to allow her head to fill with thoughts she’d rather not think. “Ralph!” She called, her voice echoing through the ominous streets.

She weaved through the cars, finding Ralph looking back to her, about sixty feet in front of her. For now, heading towards the city might be a bit smart… right? She thought, watching Ralph wait for her. “Yeah…” She whispered to herself as she started to walk. Along their way to the city, Ariana started to scream, hoping that there might be others like her whom could hear her.

“Hello!” She wailed, as she started her hour and half long journey towards the city; Ralph already ahead of her, helping her with trying to locate those who aren’t frozen by barking.
