Astrid

The history teacher droned on in a monotone voice about something that Astrid really didn't care for when it came to history. Her mind began to wander as she stared out the window and fiddled with the necklace around her neck, a present from her mother a couple of years before.

"I’m passing back your book reports and I must say I was impressed by how thorough some of you were on your topics of interest. Miss Foster", he tapped Astrid on the shoulder. I'm very impressed with yours, the extensive information you had on Norse mythology and Viking history was very interesting. I commend you on your grade, very rarely do find one of my students reports to be so enthralling that I don't want to put it down till I'm finished".

Astrid nodded "Thank you sir" she blushed slightly as some in the class laughed at her, the teacher nodded and continued passing out the rest of the graded assignments.

She hated getting papers like this sometimes, it usually ended up with her getting teased, she sighed and as soon as the bell tolled she bolted out the door and to her locker.

"Just be grateful it's your last year of high school" she said quietly to herself, the fact that it was a school on a military base didn't help either. "Astrid dear you’re just special that’s all", she heard this all the time from her mother, but that didn't change the fact it was embarrassing as hell.

Her senior year in high school had so far been less then tolerable. She was grateful for graduation and the upcoming summer, Astrid wasn't sure what she was going to do with herself after she graduated. One of the many arguments she had been having with her mother as of late, that and the fact that she was still getting into fights at school. Her school record back even when she was very young had that shadow, but she had never been able to back down from a fight; it was like a matter of pride. She had always been one of the tallest, strongest girls and for some reason guys felt they had to prove themselves stronger than her.

She sighed and looked into the mirror in the back of her locker the necklace had always been so important to her because her mother had told her it would protect her. As far as she knew her mother wasn't very religious except for the Norse beliefs that she held to, Astrid never really understood why.

"Thor's hammer" she mumbled to herself not really thinking.

"Astrid you’re talking to yourself again", said a slightly nasally tone of voice.

She shook her head trying to get the fog out of her head, Astrid looked up to see her best friend "Hey, Bailey" she said.

They guy before her was a head shorter than her, had large, thick black glasses on, and Captain America t-shirt on; no one ever expected them to be friends. The kid was by everyone else's standards considered to be a geek, but Bailey was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. He had an obsession over the Avengers; he had all kind of books and merchandise at his house, much to the chagrin to his father who was a General. All tough guys like General Hicks wanted their sons to be muscle headed idiots like themselves. So to have a total dork for a son is very disappointing to him and he never ceases to let Bailey know either.

"I heard through the grape vine that you beat the holy hell out of Griffin yesterday" he said with a smile. "Almost broke his arm, I swear Astrid are you sure you're not some kind of super hero from another planet, like in the comic books?" he chuckled.

This was a conversation that she had been having with him since they were in the third grade, "Nooo, I'm sure I'm not some kind of super hero" Astrid sighed. When they were younger they would play super heroes, living on a military base you had to find something to do even though his father wasn't too happy about his son playing with a girl.

"Maybe you're a mutant? I've been hearing allot about that lately in the news there's supposed to be some school in New York. All kinds of secret shit" he said with genuine concern for her.

That was a new explanation, Astrid thought about it for a moment, maybe he was right and that's why her mother wouldn't tell her anything about her father. Astrid had never known her father and never really known him. She would ask questions especially when Astrid's mother would be informed of something odd or extraordinary she had done. Once again her mother would only reply that she was special or scold her for fighting at school and then under her breath thinking she couldn't hear would comment on how much she was like her father. Astrid's only thought to this was if she knew more about her father then maybe she could avoid doing things like him.

"I don't know maybe I am..." it was then the bell rang and everyone started to file into school to start the day. The pair walked in hoping the day would be fairly uneventful.

-OOC- Astrid is at a high school on a secret military base... she is not aware of this and has lived there her whole life. You characters do not have to be at this school, but that doesn't mean they can't be at the school. Be creative! =^.^=
