With her hair flying everywhere around her face and her heart racing like crazy, Samantha walked, almost ran, into the ballroom where the masquerade was held as usual. Her mom had arrived ages ago, while her father was at home working on some book. He was very ill and had gotten permission to stay home the next week or so. Only because he was so well-liked among the members of the Council, of course. Samantha sighed and adjusted her mask. Her mum would kill her if she knew how late she was. Precision and perfection meant everything to that woman, one of the things that made Sam and her mum so different.
She slowed down and tried to walk past the group standing in front of the doorway without touching any of them. It was difficult with all the huge ball gowns. Whisper herself was wearing a white evening gown, that by itself might not have been flashy enough, but with her mask it looked amazing. She managed to get past them seemingly without anyone noticing. Even though she was late, not everyone had showed up yet. Half of the floor was actually still empty. Whisper smiled and relaxed her shoulders; she should stop worrying so much about her mother. She glanced around the giant ballroom unsure of what to do for some minutes, but then decided to just stay by herself for a while. Even though she always enjoyed observing the others, she kinda wanted someone to walk up to her. She'd been a member for almost a year now, but only had a few people she talked to. Also, she just wanted something different to happen tonight.
((sorry for the very short and uninspiring post - I promise to make up for it in another post))
