Deanna kept to the quiter streets as she made her way through the city, daring to take dark empty alleyways rather than havin to interact with anyone who might be loitering around the bars and brothels. Still, it was night time which meant that there always seemed to be somone lurking around every corner. So many seemes to have a rather nocturnal sleeping pattern. Not that she could talk, she'dbe lucky of she managed to get more than a couple of hours sleep tonight th e way things were going.
Every now and then someone would call from a doorway, offering some sort of service, or simply a crude comment. Deanna kept her gaze directly ahead and didn't falter in her stride.
Keeping to this method she passed a couple making out againt the alleyway wall. As she did the couple paused, one stayed partially slumped aginst the wall pouting at the intermission but the other, a demon, moved instaed towards Dianna, reaching for her arm. Deanna snatched her arm away, pulled her robe more securely across her front and continued walking.
"Please," the demon called.
Deanna hesitated then stopped. She continued staring ahead, but she listened to every step as the demon approached. It came to stand in front of her and peered at her face with its scarlett eyes. It circled her once then stood beside her and very slowly leant forward until Deanna could feels its breath on the side of her neck. It inhaled deeply through its nose then murmured, "You don't smell right."
"And you smell like rotten eggs," Deanna said plainly, turning her head to glare at the demon.
The demon pulled back like it had been slapped.
"Under the musk and spice of whatever your wearing, under the sweat and dirt and whatever else on your
skin, you smell like brimstone, and we outrank you."
Realisation dawned on the demon's face and suddenly it tipped its head back and laughed.
"I see now," the demon grinned. "Shared accomodation. Tough gig, brother. I won't challenge your statement tonight, only because I have better things to do." The demon's eyes turned lustistily back to its companion. "Goodnight to you both."
Deanna picked up her stride again and continued out the other side of the alley without a backwards glance.

We rank higher.
"Naturally."
We would rank even higher if you were more cooperative.
"Not going to happen. Besides rank isn't a bodycount its about potential. And potentially, we'd definately
kick ass. That's why we weren't challenged."
Silence.
"Stop brooding," Deanna scolded. They were only a couple of blocks from home now.
Silence.
"Oh, for goodness sakes-" Then she smelt it.
Angel's blood.
"Yeah..." It wasn't an uncommon smell in this city and usually she just ignored it, but it could still be distracting. It was one of the only things she appreciated about having him around, because had she been only human she probably wouldn't pick it up. Deanna couldn't say exactly what it smelt like, except that to her it was good.
Smells better spilled on the earth.
"No. Shut up. Where's it coming from?"
