Image The world quieted and became lackluster, uninviting and slow again. Jaylene hummed for a split second to herself as she noted the daub of blood running along her arm. Her mind wandered elsewhere as Brik let himself out quietly; she had only nodded to his vague gratitude. The driver side mirror flipped down so Jaylene could inspect the damage of her proboscis, the inner flesh desiccated and maimed by her usual abuses. Another stream of blood gushed its way from her right nostril and onto the 'kissable' crease as a few guys had called it, of her upper lip.

Inwardly she was spoiling. It was making its company known, surging out of her nose in fulvous streams. She didn't want to admit to herself that her daily habits had formed a downtempo suicide. But all that mattered really was that she enjoyed herself and the diversion was to die for, no pun intended.

The only sound known to her was the negligible idling purr of her car's engine. It was when she was sure Brik had gone inside that he popped up at her window, softly drumming his virile fingers against the reflective surface. "I just…" Her teeth gritted; despite her jaw clenching she looked at him for a scaled down instant, at his unfathomable eyes and the slope of his cheeks. Then she glanced away having forgotten completely about the blood running from her nose. She became a little embarrassed, looking him dead in the face for a second with her vital fluid welling out of her nose. "I'm sorry for tonight. Thanks for the ride." An influx of things she wanted to say in response penetrated valves in her brain.

With a flutter of her hand, she shook her head and then nodded as if to say 'Yeah, don't mention it.' But no words came. Was she still choleric from his silent treatment or was she burnt out? She couldn't likely figure it out in the state she was victim to as she peered out of the passenger window and subtly wiped at her nose again.

When she looked back, he'd gone. A breath of relief escaped her blood lined lips while she ripped the car into drive and pulled away. Images of Summer thrashing her head and moving her hips flashed in Jaylene's brain, followed by Kaleb's burnt sienna eyes and Avi's protruding bones and, and… Brik's lips gasping for air while he lie on the earth by the lake. "Shit," she muttered, rounding a corner at such an immense speed that the car started to balance on its two left wheels.

Her heart plummeted into her gut. Time decelerated as the car stabilized in half point, feeling as though it could flip. Wind tore through the ajar window at a sluggardly pace, leisurely lifting one blond strand of hair at a time and playing with it.

'Thunk!'

The car landed on all fours and wobbled. Jaylene slowed for once, taking her time getting home the rest of the way. Upon pulling into her empty driveway, the clouds broke away from the starless sky. It had become so late that she hoped to see some sort of heavenly bodies speckling the inky upper atmosphere. Like the rest of the night, that hadn't gone as planned. Slumping against the front door, she punched in the disarm code and prowled inside. The next few moments were mantled by darkness and black nausea that she'd undoubtedly wake up to in the morning as well.

Before she fell asleep, the buzzing in her brain had subsided, deputized for by the voices of her friends who weren't anywhere near at hand.
