Jessica stared at the note in her hand, completely and utterly surprised. Her parents had not prepared her for this, they never told her she needed to be initiated, or that she had to be married. All she had known was that her parents married young, but at sixteen? That was crazy, insane. What sort of people would be making them- teenagers -do such a thing? Jess didn't see any plus in being married, it had nothing to do with being a Puppeteer- which she had only recently been introduced to. Sighing heavily, she slumped down in a chair at the island, waiting for her father to get home so she could give him the letter. Her mother had passed away the year before, killed by another Puppeteer for cheating on her husband. It had made the teenager develop a bit of hatred towards the Puppeteers, but she also couldn't find a good reason to blame them.

Her mother had cheated, after all.

Her father returned home not too long later, carrying bags of take out food and his briefcase. She quickly rose to help him with his things, pulling the briefcase out of his hands and a few bags before placing them all gently on the island, where they tended to eat at more often than the actual dining room table. It had always been her mothers thing, sitting and eating together like a family. Without her, that had stopped, but neither of them seemed to mind much. Her father and her got along just fine without her mother there, and both of them had made a sort of silent agreement to just not think or talk about it.

So far, it was working out pretty good.

Fork halfway to her mouth, she paused, looking up at her father and then to the letter. Plucking it off the table, she handed it to him without a word, standing to get them refills. Another difference since her mother left, the only thing they really drank anymore was soda. John- her father -was a Dr. Pepper guy, and she was all for the red Mountain Dew. It was about the only thing in their fridge, since neither of them knew how to cook so they usually just ordered out or had premade meals done for them.

Surprisingly, her father seemed more upset than happy. Neither of them spoke about it, he only mentioned once that she might want to get ready that night because they would be leaving around noon tomorrow and it wasn't normal for Jess to wake up before one- it wasn't her fault that Tumblr and writing and drawing and guitar kept her up until four in the morning. Wasn't her fault that the only time she got the muse to do such things was when she was way past tired and was probably on the brink of insanity. Standing, she collected her and her dad's plates before going over to wash them. While she did that, he got out the ice cream and prepared two bowls, leaving for his office when he was finished.

Never, ever waking up before noon again.

That morning was torture. She was awoken by Kellin Quinn screaming in her ear- it was the loudest song she had on her phone -, which caused her to literally flail and fall out of bed. Quickly throwing on clothes which consisted of her LOVEsick jeans[ black with white skulls on one leg, plain black on the other leg] and My Chemical Romance's last shirt sold in stores, she threw some other things in her bag and was downstairs just as her father was calling her to get ready to go. As soon as she got in the car she plugged in her phone and her and her father sang- screamed -along to her music for the next hour until they reached the building.

Though she wouldn't admit it...

...as they pulled up to the building, the butterflies started to wake up in her stomach, making her grateful that she had forgotten lunch that morning. Downing the rest of her drink- an energy drink this time, courtesy of her father stopping at the gas station -she gently pushed the car door open and stepped out into the sunlight. "Do you think anyone is here yet?" she asked, still surveying her surroundings.
