They fit perfectly together, at least Sam thought so anyway. As she laid her head in the crook of his neck, it just felt right. Her tiny frame complemented his muscular build. As she pulled away to dig into his omelette, all he could do was smile. Their relationship hadn't been intentional, it had just happened. That was what made him feel like it was real. They had originally bonded over the fact that both of their mates were less than willing to do their duty, and it had just grown from there. He had learned that she was so much like him, peaceful and loving, and that was rare to find in a person, and especially a werewolf. He honestly hadn't felt this way since Emma, and if he was honest with himself, he might even feel more for Caroline. He had promised himself at the young age of fifteen that he would never fully give himself over to someone unless his love for her was equal to or greater than his love had been for Emma. He thought his search might be over.

"Oh baby, this is really good, you should be a cook" she joked at him before taking another forkful, and he playfully nudged her with his shoulder. "Oh ha ha very funny..." he replied, chuckling softly. Honestly, he didn't think he was that great of a cook. He had practically learnt everything he knew from Axel, and wouldn't be working in the diner if it wasn't for his friend's help. And after learning, he had come to really enjoy it, and his days in the diner were some of his favorites. He enjoyed meeting everyone who came in to eat, and regularly left the kitchen to help out the waitresses and chat with many of the patrons. He felt that the friendly atmosphere was one of the big reasons people kept coming back.

When he asked how she was, she paused to swallow a bite before answering. "Not too bad, although i'm much better now that I've seen you." Her smile that followed was warm and filled with love, and he could only answer back with a similar smile. She reached over to lock her fingers with his, and he squeezed her hand gently. "Look baby, I don't know how long we have alone together, so, will you come to the bar after your shift?"

He was about to respond when the familiar jingle of the bell caused him to look away. He saw Sara enter and sit by herself in a booth, face stuck in a menu. She stayed that way for a minute, but eventually looked over and made eye contact with him. He gave her a small smile. He broke his hand away from Caroline's and held up a finger indicating he'd be with her in a minute. He was surprised she had come into the diner at all. She had broken away from the pack, and normally avoided them extremely well. He didn't have a problem with her, but he was sure some other members would. He looked back to Caroline and nodded. "Of course I'll come, but you know we have to be careful. Depending on who's there, I may have to sit across the room and just stare at you all night," he paused and winked at her before continuing, "but either way I'll come."

He was about to stand when the jingle happened once more. Instantly he jerked away from Caroline, not knowing who it was. β€œAhem,” he heard behind him, and turned to find Lassiter, Caroline's so-called mate. His eyes narrowed, knowing this was bad news. Lassiter wasn't exactly his favorite pack member... actually he was probably Sam's least favorite. He was challenging just because he could be, and used sarcasm as a language. While he was smart and cunning, it didn't make up for his lack of people skills. He honestly didn't know if Caroline had told Lassiter about their relationship, after all the two of them were pretending, just as Sam and Josephine were. Either way, this was bad news, but he hoped Lassiter could just keep his mouth shut.

β€œSam how could you-” he paused β€œ-not go fix me some coffee- seriously- tut tut. Get your rear in gear- especially before you know who sees this. Hm? You know if you ever get caught I’m glazing over and swearing to knowing nothing. So- free coffee for my silence? Yes?” He grinned, being the smart ass that he was. Sam just ignored him and turned to Caroline. "Guess I gotta go play waitress now," he said, standing up. He ruffled her hair playfully, and gone was their romance and attraction. It pained him, and he knew she hated it as well, but it was how it had to be. "Enjoy your omelette," he said with a smile before walking behind the counter and grabbing a mug. He poured Lassiter a cup of coffee and slid it towards him. Without a word he walked over to Sara, who he had ignored for far longer than he intended.

"Sorry about that," he said, running a hand through his hair. "What can I get you this morning?" he asked, crossing his arms. "And how have you been?" he added with a small smile.
