Nero heard the clink of stone against metal and felt the impact in his wrists as he blinked open his eyes, which he had barely realized had fallen shut with exhaustion and near defeat, as he was surprised to see Sven, free from his shackles, kneeling before him. When his stormy gray-blue eyes opened, and his shackles fell off with a clink and a clatter, his eyes held a new hope, eyes blazing anew with a raging, determined bolt of blue fire as he realized they just might have a chance. He caught himself with his palms as he collapsed to his hands and knees, his limbs buckling underneath him when the shackles fell from his wrists, falling forward, as the shackles had seemed to be the only things on this earth holding his exhausted body upright as he knelt on his knees, until now. He looked at his wrists in wonder, gingerly rubbing the sore, gory skin slick with blood, relieved as the worst of the pain subsided. He looked up at Sven. "Thank you." he murmured, although there was wariness in his eyes. Why was Sven doing this? He hated them, Nero knew he feared Riley, he could have just left them there to rot in this damn cage. But instead he was freeing them. Or at least trying to. As Nero's gaze shifted to Riley, he noticed her bonds had not broke, and on closer inspection he saw that they were a stronger metal, an impenetrable steel, unlike his and Sven's iron cuffs. There were flecks and chips of the stone used to smash them littered on the ground, but the steel cuffs were barely dented. "No." Nero whispered, shakily staggering to his feet and stumbling a few steps until he could reach Riley. When he reached her, he knelt down beside her and brushed the hair out of her face. With his other hand, he gently lifted her wrist and inspected the cuffs, trying to figure out a way to break them open. But, with no more rocks, and nothing thin and pliable enough to pick the lock, there seemed no hope of opening the damn thing. He met her eyes as she spoke, telling him to leave her and go with Sven. Leave her? There was no way in hell. "No." he said firmly, determination glinting in his eyes like stone hard flint. "I won't leave you. We'll figure some way to get these off, and then you're coming with us." he told her stubbornly. It wasn't a question; it was a promise. Yes, he wanted to save Sierra as well, but how could he just leave Riley lying here, waiting for them to come back and do God knows what to her? No, he couldn't. What kind of a man would he be if he left her here? He planted himself by her side, obviously not going anywhere, and cradled her head in his lap, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. "I'm not going anywhere." he murmured to her, more gently, gazing into her eyes to see if she was still going to try and stop him. He looked up at Sven. "You go on ahead. We'll catch up to you and Sierra, then we'll get the hell out of here." he told him. "And thanks," he added, grateful for being freed, and for Sven's attempt at breaking off Riley's shackles, despite the fact that the blonde-haired boy seemed to despise both of them with just about every ounce of his heart.
