Rose Ann cried out slightly as the fox creature slumped unconscious. She shifted her position to support his back and laid him down gently on the grass. She bit her lip in worry. She had been trained in basic procedures for medical emergencies, but everything she learned was for humans. If what Enka had said was true about digimon be that different from humans, she had no idea how to treat a fainted digimon.
Enka walked slowly toward the two. He was growing tired very quickly. He stood over the yorumon's head and examined him.
"I know what the problem is," he said, his breaths becoming heavier, "The rupture in the barrier has caused almost all of the life energy in this area to escape. It's affecting me as well as our friend here. We need to get out of here. Now."
Without hesitation Rose Ann lifted the yorumon to a limp sitting position, then brought his arms over her shoulders so she could carry him on her back.
It was more like dragging than carrying. Rose Ann was no bodybuilder, and she was shorter than the yorumon so his feet dragged behind as she trudged along. Enka walked a couple meters behind. After five minutes of the awkward trek, they approached a thicker cluster of trees.
"Here is fine," Enka announced as he walked under the shelter of a large, umbrella-shaped tree.
Rose Ann followed. She tried to be gentle, but she was too exhausted and ended dropping the yorumon far more roughly than she intended.
She sighed heavily in relief as she leaned back against the tree, her eyelids heavy.
"I could use a Starbucks. Right now," she mumbled, pulling up a corner of her mouth in a wincing smile.
