Pain, unbelievable unbearable pain coursed through his body as he clutched to his tail. The fire had been patted out, and had only touched it for a fraction of a second, but it was enough to cause the young Neko boy to scream. His fingers fumbled with the end of his tail as he bit into his lip to keep himself from crying. It was probably the human-like part of him that knew boys shouldn’t cry.
Ring! Ring! Ring! A noise erupted, causing Kataro’s ears to pop up again and he looked around eyes wide and alert. The girl who had spoken harshly ran from the room, and Kataro titled his head curious. It had distracted himself from the pain, numbing it even. It was the first time he had entered a place like that and now he was paying for it. He looked at the window he had come in from wondering if he should leave through it like he came in. However, as he made a movement towards it, the female entered the room again, causing him to cringe again and grab at his tail.
She ran at him, and he brought up his hands to cover his face. Then after a moment when nothing bad happened, he dropped his hands to see her sitting eye level with him. His eyes opened up wide, but he stayed put. Kataro lightly titled his head to the side as the girl sighed
"Are you lost? Would you like some cookies and milk in a little while? The cookies just need to cool down. I am sorry if I was too mean to you earlier. Are you okay now?" she spoke fast, and words he didn’t fully understand. Having not been around humans often enough, he didn’t know much of the language. He only caught some of it when travellers would pass through the forest. However, he did notice that she used a different tone. It was soft, and in the instant, all else was forgiven. Their eyes met, his pretty blue orbs connecting with hers for a moment. Suddenly he felt safe. He felt like he had seen eyes like hers previously, but that would be odd considering he had never been so close to a human.
The idea of it made his head sting. But, wait wasn’t his tail the one hurt. He broke the contact and glanced down at his tail as he tried to communicate with the girl. He opened his mouth a few times revealing a mouth full of cat-like teeth, rather than human. He closed his mouth then opened it again, seemingly struggling to speak. Finally he came up with a few words.
“Kat-ar-o….oww” He said lifting his tail to show her the burned off fur around the tip of the cat-like appendage. Although his words were choppy he was trying to say “I’m hurt” but replaced the “I” with his own name, speaking in a sort of third person.
