“Hello. I am one called Angiluzza.”

A young woman with bright eyes that changed color with each blink and raven hair as long as her body pirouetted her way into a large room where eleven others sat at a large round table, bickering amongst themselves, her accent thickly Italian. “Great job on taking down the Bordeaux Pack.” She smiled, passing out thick folders to everyone before standing behind a seat, positioning herself so that everyone could see her with ease. “Director Robin would be here to explain everything but she's in a very important meeting right now so I'll do my best to take her place for the moment.” The Faerie had only an hour or so ago received a message and proper debrief files from the man who headed the Guardian organization.

She cleared her throat and spoke loud and clear, pulling out the letter that was left for them. “I apologize deeply for not being able to be here myself. We did, however, watch the Dallas news and we were quite impressed with your work in clearing out the Pack infestation. I know that you all were probably quite befuddled when you were all announced as the Guardians – I do hope that you aren't too angry with us for not mentioning the tiny detail that you'd be working with eleven others. This is a bit of an experiment, really. You are all the very first Guardians and should you succeed and manage well enough after one year's time, we will hire more and begin to deploy more units upon request. You may very well be wondering what the experiment is.”

The glowing female peeked up from the letter to make sure that everyone was paying attention before continuing. “It was seven months ago that we all officially came out of the woodwork and announced our existence, proving mythology to be actuality. Since then, attacks on humans from paranormal, supernatural, and otherwise otherworldly creatures has nearly tripled. If we are to properly mainstream, we cannot simply sit by and allow it to happen. If we do, humans will once again fear us. Faeries will be forced back into Avalon, Werewolves into hiding in the forests, Vampires into the shadows, and so on and so forth. We must show them that we are not all bad. Conspiracy theories insinuating that we wish to take over the world are beginning to circulate.”

She paused again, this time cocking an eyebrow and shaking her head. Though, she couldn't say it wasn't true. She was pretty sure that there were probably some of their “kind” wanted to take over the world. “To properly mainstream, we must not learn to live in peace with just humans, but each other as well. For eons we have all been secretly at war with each other. I am not saying that we must abolish the laws set in place by each species, but we cannot have a repeat of Egypt in 70 A.D.”

She doubted that anyone present was old enough to have been there, but she had been told of a great war between the Shifters that were worshiped by the Egyptians and the demons who wanted control. But it wasn't just them – Faeries, Vampires, Werewolves, and every other creature had been pulled into it eventually. The war lasted thirty-two years and there were quite a few casualties and many human deaths. Her parents fought in that war – They fought against the Shifters.

“You may wonder why you all were selected over the many others. This has largely to do with four factors: Conflicting personalities and interests, your ancestors' part played in the War of 70 A.D., your species, and your unique set of skills and abilities. We figured that if you twelve could survive for one year living together and working together for the common good, then the idea of living in peace with everyone would be much more believable than it is at current. We are counting on you all. If you screw this up, you may just send us all back into the Dark Ages.” Well, no pressure there.

“P.S. I know that you may be wondering “Well, why experiment with us when the twenty of you all are obviously working together just fine?” Easy. Because we're all older and wiser than you and we need to know that the young ones can be responsible. No offense, dear ones. Good luck. We're counting on you.”

Again, no pressure there.

The Faerie holding the letter set it down on the table before her and quickly took a seat, opening up the folder before her. “In this folder are files on every supernatural and paranormal creature within Dallas city limits. Names, addresses, criminal records, and those sorts of things. There are also files on us in here as well.” She smiled politely, flipping lightly through the papers. She personally didn't have an issue rooming with people of other species. Her parents went flower child after a few centuries and became a lot more open minded. The only person she could say she truly didn't like was Gemini Red. That bitch was a bitch. Totally obstreperous. Not the brightest color in the spectrum either.

“Our job is going to consist of keeping them all in check. We are not to interfere with human crimes unless those crimes our committed against one of our own. We also cannot operate outside of the Dallas Area. I guess they'll explain the hierarchy when they get out of their meeting.”

She clasped her hands together and gave a light smile. “So...anybody hungry?”
