Calor's voice was dismissed and went unheard by choice. There was too much to do and so little time. The Magistrates would come for the God-Queen soon and destroy her. The paint would not come off! Sarene scrubbed and scrubbed at her skin until it started to become raw. Minuscule droplets of blood started to rise on the God-Queen's skin.

She stopped rubbing at the paint and stared at the blood. The Magistrates had always forced Sarene to never bleed and warned her that if she did so they would bring about her destruction. The God-Queen smeared the blood on her arm and tried to wipe it away to get rid of the evidence of her mortality.

"Calor!" Sarene called. The woman's hands trembled in fright and she was as helpless as a child. If anyone knew what to do it was Calor, her must trusted subject. Never before had he seen her in weakness but now that things were set into motion that could not be stopped, Calor had to know the truth.

Sarene Iracot was no goddess.
