She made a lunge at him, and he realized the gap he had left open, he spun out of the way, and his feet lost purchase on the snow. He kicked out at her, then he heard Stone yelp. He spun on his butt to Stone, pulling the cat off of his dog. He slashed out at the cat before turning his full attention onto Stone. It was stupid. He knew that it might be the death of him to take his eyes off his attacker for one second, but Stone was his only friend in the world, his family, and she was injured. He took a sheltering position on his knees in front of Stone, his knives out. Ready for the girl's next attack.
