āI know my duty and I know my obligation, but I do not know this other thing that moves me. It is irrational, illogical, at odds with the others, and so much stronger.ā
He wasnāt very used to being talked about. Usually, people were either too scared or too uninterested to bother discussing him, but he supposed his odd new association with these people might be sufficient to get a few bolder tongues wagging. He was simply inclined to roll his eyes and leave it be, but for some reason, Fujiwara thought it important enough to take his hand when the discussion regarding him became audible to her. He didnāt get it, but he accepted the gesture, squeezing once of his own accord, though he wasnāt aware of it, before she released him again. He was sure that was abound to go noticed by somebody, but for once, maybe the fact that nobody ever shut up about Zenith would be useful and it wouldnāt start anything moronic. He could hope, anyway.
He was inclined to advise against proceeding too far out onto the grounds, but he didnāt, because he had a feeling he knew something of what Rosenkreuz was actually experiencing right now, and if it were him, heād want to be away from as many people as possible. He almost snorted, unaware of when heād become so soft as to give a damn what other people wanted, but in truth, heād always been that way. He just used to be better at hiding it. It felt likeā¦ some part of him that didnāt really belong was cracking, that his mask was peeling away, bit by bit, if only seldom and for very specific people.
His reflection on this fact slowed his reaction time just enough that Fujiwara jumped in front of the knives before he could knock them out of the sky. Getting his bearings almost immediately, Sora sniffed, then shot a hand out, lancing six bolts of lightning into various tree branches. Six bodies fell from those branches to the ground with hard thuds, entirely unconscious and likely to stay that way for a while.
The smell of his friendās blood was on the air, and he was furious. It didnāt show, of course, for he wore the assassinās face for truth now, featureless and blank as a pristine canvas, but it was true all the same. Midori sensed this through her mental link, and he instructed her to send them Yamazaki immediately, through whatever means necessary to get her here. He knew that the top priority was getting Rosenkreuz to safety, but that wasnāt going to happen if they either finished off or ignored Fujiwara and pursued. Logically, it made the most sense to get Haruka to their charge so that the could move him to safety, whilst he and Fujiwara stopped the pursuers. Weāre close, Midori told him through their link, and that confirmed it.
āWest,ā he told Rosenkreuz, drawing his knife from its sheath. āYamazakiās on her way. Sheāll take you where you need to go. Weāll make sure youāre not followed.ā Asuka alone wasnāt going to be able to do that, considering how injured she was already.
A rustling in the branches gave away another assailant, but Sora was there before sheād even landed, striking her hard with the handle of his dagger and dropping her to the ground. A pair went for Fujiwara, and the remaining three, much more cautious than their counterparts, tried coming at him together. They were using anti-vampire weapons, from the look and smell of the steel. That wasnāt nearly as much of a problem for him as they thought it was going to be, though, and he fully intended to take advantage of this.
