Emily listened as Zane told his story. They really weren't that dissimilar, except for the fact that his mom was alive and his dad was in prison. "I'm sorry that happened to you," she said. Although, she knew her apology wouldn't mean anything to him, just as his wouldn't mean anything to her. It had happened. No apology could fix that.

When they got to a house, Emily looked up as Zane carried her inside. His mother and sister were there, and they stared at her as Zane put her on a chair. As Zane walked away, Emily stared back at his family. "Um...I'm sorry...I didn't mean to impose..." She knew she looked like a mess, what with blood matted in her hair and long gashes down her face, not to mention the blood and dirt that stained her clothes. She looked up and sighed in relief as Zane walked back in. She hated awkwardness, and it was obvious that Zane's family had no idea what was going on or why some strange girl was in their house. "I'll bring you some of my moms clothes if you want to change." She nodded, starting to wipe off the blood. Realizing it was making the situation more awkward with her just sitting there wiping blood off her body, she cleared her throat. "Um, can you show me to the bathroom?" She asked Zane, not meeting his eyes.
