Elena had dressed herself neatly today, though her hair had refused to be pinned, so it hung loosely about her form as she poured a cup of tea. The kitchen smelled of bacon, bread, pastries and crepes. She worked with two other maidens, who, were busy tending to the garden outside. Elena was always an early bird, up as soon as the sun hit the trees and straight to work. It was a wonder if the girl ever slept. In fact, she did…and she dreamt of the prince.
It had been a week. Just a week and she already enjoyed the prince’s company. She knew it was wrong for her to want to be around him, but it was what it was, just a feeling. Nothing more. However, there were times where she day dreamed of the boy, and that charming smile of his. She was relieved he had hired her off her Madam, the one woman who trained her to be so precise.
The girl’s attention was drawn from her day dream and she glanced up from the dough. Her eyes settled on the prince’s and she smiled faintly. He took a piece of bacon off the plate and she shot him a look. Breakfast wasn’t ready yet, but she knew he was allowed to do what he wished. She took the plate however and slid it down the counter before she wiped her hands down on a white cloth that hung near the sink.
Elena was dressed in her usual attire, a knee high black dress and black flats. She didn’t wear anything fancy or flashy, it just didn’t seem right for her to. She moved to the small ball of dough that she had been rolling, flattening it out carefully. She took what seemed like a paint brush and dipped it into a small bowl of mashed fruit. Black berry, it looked like.
“You have tea, breakfast, a man came this morning with a new horse, figured you might be interesting in buying him. A stallion, I believe.” She stuck the brush back into the bowl, before she finally folded the dough in half and placed it onto a plate.
“I brushed him for you and he’s waiting in the stables…”
