Daniel walks briskly towards the produce section of the small Russian marketplace. He nods stiffly to Mrs. Gorshcov and her daughter, Judy. They nod back to him and begin arranging their display of plump, juicy tomatoes. I should make beef stroganov tonight. I wonder what Rosa wants for dinner. He gathers his supplies quickly to bring back to Father. He insists on cooking every night, though his illness made it difficult for him to do much else. Father is strong, he used to say to himself, he can handle some simple dinner. His mind was clouded, which is why he didn't notice the German in his territory, not at first anyway. Careless. All fault is born from carelessness.
