Nervously, Amphytriton paced his study. Today was a simple Monday, it marked the beginning of the second week of camp. The first had gone absolutely swimmingly, despite the general antsy-ness and awkward teenage introductions, Camp Fullblood was up and running, so why? Why was Amphytriton so... worried? There had been no word from the Oracle, a young woman possessed by the spirit of Dodona, the Ancient Oracle of Epirus. There had been no early warnings of beasts or blessings from the Satyrs. So why, then? Why should Amphytriton worry? Was it troubles with the campers themselves? No. While rowdy, campers could be punished and controlled. Further, Amphytriton was a capable teacher, he never had troubles identifying with his charges, or helping them to learn to use their gifts to the best of their abilities. It wasn't the camp's finances either. With donations from established, and fully grown, Halfbloods, on top of the Camp's business front, a sizable peach plantation manned by dryads and satyrs, the camp was in no danger of forclusure. Then what? What on Earth could make Amphytriton worry? What could bring him to feel as if something terrible was coming? Something no mortal nor god could protect them from? What shadow lurked beyond his sight, setting foul plots in motion? Only time would tell. Finally exhausted from his musings, Amphytriton gave up. He sighed, chuckling, and poured himself a cup of tea. Sitting down, Amphytriton picked up a roughly worn notebook. It's pages were filled with nonsensical scribblings and odd diagrams depicting cannons that fired pumpkins. Amphytriton lazily turned the page and began writing a set of columns. In each column, he put the names of his campers, making sure no one person was in both columns, effectively creating teams. Last week, the all camp game had been a decathlon, and while the sporting events were well received, Amphytriton knew what the children really wanted: Capture the Flag.
Outside the main office, which housed the quarters for the teachers, the oracle, and the other staff, a raucous carnival was taking place. From the far end of the Camp's playing field, to the shores of the camp's beach, all manner of festivities were taking place. Though the large field at the most westerly point of camp was closed, as Capture the flag had not yet started, the satyrs and dryads were busily setting the playing field for the upcoming game. Further east, and at the northern border, was the camp's stables. Immediately south of the stables, was a racing track and coliseum, built to house events and games of all kinds. Further east, in the direct center of camp, lay the Dining Pavilion and kitchen. South of the pavilion was the camp store as well was the main office for camp. Further east and to the north of the dining pavilion, lay the central field. Here campers could practice and home their skills, participate in all manner of scheduled camp activities and classes, and, currently, was the central location of all the games for the festival. This center field was often modified to house other events and activities, such as dodgeball or debates, and was the flattest, most well groomed field in all of camp. To the south of the central field lay the Cabin Circle, wth Zeus and Kronos Cabins at the head, the cabins for Divine Fathers were all on the right, and the Divine Mothers all on the left. Each cabin was split into boys and girls dorms, and each had plenty of space to fit as many as up to thirty children. At each of the four cardinal direction, placed strategically on the inside of the cabin circle, were a set of bathrooms and showers, each split into both genders, and capable of housing up to ten occupants on either side at once. Finally, at the furthest east of camp, lay the beach, where campers could swim, surf, sail, canoe, and row during their free time, or during scheduled events and classes.
As mentioned previously, to celebrate the first successful week at Camp, Amphytriton and the other staffers, were throwing a huge festival, complete with a buffet and as many games and activities as a young halfblood could want. So what are you waiting for? Your friends are all there? Join the party!
