Staring down the edge of the cliff, Astrid let her power consume her.
Astrid had ventured out onto her seclude on the mountain the academy was settled on, where she often went to train her powers; if she wasn't studying Norse gods and their abilities. Starting a new term, she wanted to start a routine of coming to this private place in the mornings before class to harness more control on her power, as if using Professor Lawrence wasn't enough.
And today was the day she would try to change willingly into a god.
The electricity crackled and sparked in her palms as Astrid aimed towards the air around her; well it wasn't Astrid, technically it was Thor. Her eyes were completely engulfed in white as she kept herself isolated on the mountain cliff.
Once a large bolt escaped from her fingers she returned to her body, rested on the rocky wall behind her as she breathed heavily. It was one of the first times she'd tried to bring the gods out of her own accord, and she could feel the edges of faintness encircling her. It took a lot of energy to focus on such a specific power. She would have to do more studying to figure out how to do anything else. Astrid checked her watch to find that the school day was going to start soon. She would most likely hike back up during independent study.
Astrid wiped her face with a towel and started heading down to change into her uniform. Although the uniform was bland, being a black blazer with the Dreist crest, a button-down with the violet of the two Dreist colors, and khakis, she managed to spice it up, as most Dreist girls did.
The hike back down took longer than expected, so Astrid had to skip a shower, instead freshening up, and had little time to straighten her hair before they went off to guide the freshman for the annual tour. It really irked her, being that she wanted to look her best today. Dress to impress, her mother used to say; when she was around, of course.
She plucked at the blouse so that it wouldn't stick to her stomach and shimmed into her high-waisted khakis. The school did give the students optional uniforms, but they were drab and quite ugly to Astrid. She would never be caught dead in khaki bermuda shorts and the stiff purple-y shirts that the school provided. She would rather spend her own money on more fashionable items. Astrid barely had enough time for her makeup with Kian, and Annabelle were going to be knocking on her door. The three agreed to meet up before orientation to walk over together.
Once they arrived, Astrid was as ready as she could be, appearing with a smug look on her face. "Goodmorning Annabelle, Kian." She gave the boy a once over and turned to walk between them.
They chatted off-handedly until Headmaster Ryan approached Astrid, a freshman girl tagging along. Astrid assumed this was the girl she was showing around.
