Maleki

The moment Hugo the mad human told Maleki that they would not be leaving till tomorrow morning he had made his way away from the booth. He never enjoyed having random people pushing up against him so the chance to get away was more than welcome. The growing crowd made movement a little difficult though and he had barely gotten to the far end of the square before chaos was unleashed.

The cool blast of air center a shiver down Maleki’s spine, an immediate sign that whatever was happening had a more ethereal nature, he had felt such things before on his travels and he knew enough to pay attention to it. He watched as three pillars delivered a large group into the middle of the city, the city guard attempted to deal with them but they were clearly outmatched. Maleki watched with a cold face as the slaughter began; the cultist killed all regardless of age, sex, race or gender. He had seen such slaughter before but never on such a large scale. The city guard were busy trying to stay alive, they had not been prepared for anything like this and as such they were being picked apart rather easily. Maleki turned away from the slaughter, his feet moving slowly as he walked away from the chaos. He was no coward, but more importantly he was no fool either. It was never his goal to get involved in conflicts that could be avoided. Reaching up he pulled his thorn bastard sword from its sheathe, the blade coming up from over his right shoulder and falling easily at his side. The familiar weight of it gave him some small comfort, you would not be able to tell it from looking at him though. His body had gained a stiffness about it, all of his muscles alert and ready, like a spring with pressure build up in it and ready to be released. His face took on an easy scowl, his eyes scanning left to right and back again while his ears listened to each and every sound.

He had only taken a few steps when he saw a small family, two parents with their two children, being attacked by a group of three cultist. Maleki had not seen them come past him so he figured they either came from other drop points or they were agents sent in ahead of time in disguise. The male parent was defending his family with a sword taken from one of the fallen city guardsmen, a sword that the man obviously had no clue how to wield. One of the cultist glanced at Maleki and let out some sort of scream, not of terror though but of some deep inhuman passion. He did not know if it was the sight of him, a grim faced troll carrying a wicked blade, that sent the man into a frenzy or if it was the simple sight of seeing a living being but the mad cultist through himself at Maleki. The cultist moved like a wild animal, his blade flashing towards Maleki with a quick but savage movement. The man was allowing his passion to get ahold of him, something the troll had been taught to never do. The bastard sword came up in a single motion and came down with a fury, the blade struck the cultist on his left shoulder and with the strength behind it cleaved its way through his chest. One of the totems around Maleki’s neck glowed, faint hammer symbols coming to life as they boosted his strength. The other two cultist turned their attention to him, the family having a moment of respite as the men, if they could even be called that, launched themselves at the troll with a fury. Once again Maleki moved with well a clam precision that had been drilled into him from a young age. Focusing his energy he tapped into the magic within him, twisting it and pushing it out to give it real form as a blast of flame which took one of the cultist full in the chest. Without a single pause Maleki’s feet moved in thee quick steps, bringing him to the side of the leaping cultist and watching him tumble past. With a quick pivot he brought the blade around in a full spin around his body and slashed through the man before he had even hit the ground. His uncle had taught him never to let his feet leave the ground in a fight. Jumping and leaping may look nice but you had no way to change direction once in the air. Turning he moved towards cultist he had hit with the fire blast, the man was shrieking either from the flames eating him alive or from watching as the troll stomped his foot down on his neck; snapping it easily.

The city was in a panic from all the fighting. Maleki took a moment to survey the chaos, the nord from earlier was trying to get people to fight while the guard seemed as though they were trying to group together on the north side, civilians were dying all around and the cultist had set several fires which was making movement more difficult. The family he had just saved was talking to him now, there voices lost in all the chaos. Turning towards them Maleki slipped the thorn blade away as he spoke. “No matter what happens, stay behind me” Turning back Maleki pulled his shield from his back, the weight of it loosening up his back as he placed it on his left arm, and he drew his shorter blade from his waist. He knew the family was going to follow him, he could not do anything to stop that, but he wanted them out of his way. Moving forward he broke into a jog as he made his way back towards the booth. He would get past them and towards the guards as quickly as possible. Without breaking stride he smashed his shield into another one of the cultist, smashing him away. His blade game around in a series of quick slashes, cutting down the man before he hit the ground. He could hear the family giving a light squeal behind him but he paid it no mind, any enemy would probably pay attention to him rather than them.
