Dark. That was the first thought Darien had upon waiting. After a moment of gathering his bearings and coming to the conclusion that he was indeed still living, he focused on opening his eyes. They were heavy, and felt sticky for some reason, but after a moment, his eyelids fluttered open. A weight pressed on his face, and when he tried to move his hand to remove it, he found it bound to whatever bed he was lying on. A moment's analysis revealed the following facts;
He was in a hospital, probably Wing City Hospital based on the ambient sounds. He was handcuffed to his bed and currently was on an antibiotic saline drip, which from the looks of it needed to be changed 5.2 minutes ago. His eyes flickered to the left. Fifth or sixth floor, based on the view out of the window. His face and most of his body was covered in bandages, most likely a treatment for the tissue damage he had attained...well...it was hard to gauge how long he'd been unconscious. With a small grunt, he turned his head to look at the door. A curtain blocked the view in to the outer hall, but the harsh sound of a radio clued him in that there was probably a WCPD officer standing guard at the threshold.
With a prolonged guttural growl, he sat up, his bandaged torso crackling as both dead skin and medical tape bent and shifted for the first time in a while. The pain was distant, so he was guessing that he was also on a regimen of painkillers. Just then, he heard the sound of a woman's voice conversing at the doorway, and the sound of rolling wheels.
"Hi, I'm here to refresh his medications."
"ID?"
...
"Alright, go in."
Before the curtain was drawn aside, Darien quietly laid back down on the bed and closed his eyes, steadying his heartrate and breathing. The nurse went about her business quickly, and in five minutes, he was alone again. Alone to think.
This wasn't at all what he had wanted. Didn't people understand? Without proper protection, this city, scratch that, this universe was a deathtrap. If he would just be able to pursue his research with the proper facilities, then, then he would be able to perfect the secrets he had been uncovering. Metaphysical abilities, each more fabulous than the last. A true world of equals, free from oppression from those with powers...
As he ruminated on this, his thesis, he subconsciously ran a tongue over his fangs, leaking a little venom as he did so...
