Bane sighed slightly at the question, walking ahead of her for a moment. Upon reaching his car he walked over to the passenger side, reaching out for the door handle. He looks down at his hand on the door, clearly in thought, before he finally looked back up at Jacqueline.
"That's a complicated question... Well.. not really.. Simple question, complicated answer. " He says as he opens the door, sliding into the car. As she entered the car, he continued. " I... was born here in New Orleans... but I grew up in Northern Missouri. By the time I was 18.. I started to travel.. a lot.. and by the time I was 21 I was back here... That's when I was shot dead. " He looked out the front window at traffic moving on the street. " Then the Church found me.. and I stayed. After a few years I became more... 'normal'... I had a House, a nice front lawn, a fa- .. " He pauses, looking up at her as if he was contemplating something. " a Dog..." He finally says. "... all the normal stuff your traditional 'Witch Hunter posing as your basic Christian' would have. "
" Then.. One night I helped take down a particularly nasty Witch.. " he said before lighting the cigarette, taking a long drawl as it first starts to burn. Looking back out the window he remains quiet for another minute, not responding to anything she might ask.
" You know the story of Hansel and Gretel? The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale? Two kids lost in the Woods - find a Witches Cottage made of Candy - Witch tries to eat the kids. Sounds like just one of those... growsly over exaggerated stories .. meant to make Witches sound all the more evil, right? Well... " He takes another puff - looking at her once again. " With this one, it was true... I understand what you're saying about magic not being evil.. that the only difference between a good and a bad Witch is choice.... well... This one had defiantly made the wrong choice." He looked away from her, as he turned his brow furrowed as if he was trying to believe his own words.
" She lured the kids in... with candy and sweets no less... and killed them.. Then she cut them up and cooked them - eating pretty much everything but the bones.. " His frowned deepened. " and as if that wasn't sick enough... She would hunt down the parents and use so kind of twisted magic to make them forget they ever even had kids.. Of course that didn't get rid of all the papers floating around with the kids name on it or make other people who remember the kids forget... so when the parents didn't put in a missing child report within a few days- the Schools, Distant family, and Neighbors would call... The Parents would end up in jail as people think they killed the kids all the while they can't remember a damn thing..." He shook his head, returning from his memories to the real world. He took another long drawl off his cigarette.
" Needless to say.. after this happened to a few different parents... We got wind of it... and we managed to track her down to a Trailer just a few miles outside of town. A few splashes of Holy Oil, a locked front door with an Anti-Magic Ward, and a Burnt down trailer later.. We thought we had her dead.." Bane took another long drawl off the cigarette, it's size now dwindling. His face began to grow pale as he told the story. " But... Some how she got out before the fire started... and she was pissed. " He rolled down his window, tossing the cigarette butt outside. " So while I was out having a celebratory drink with a few people - She managed to figure out where I lived and she - ... " He pauses, his breathing rate having increased as he looked like he was trying to find the words to use. He was doing his best to hide any emotion - but it was clearly starting to fail. " She.. " Bane closed his eyes, growing quiet.
(WOW.. that turned into a lot more then I thought it would. XD)
