When Miiko looked back at Trayton, he smiled, hoping that would bring some level of comfort to her. But then he saw how she struggled to say "thank you" and Trayton could feel a knot forming in his throat. He was sure that the worry showed on his face despite his smile. "You don't have to thank me, I owed you for that lunch you made me, now we're even." He said in a poor attempt to lighten the mood.

Karin came running over just as Miiko began to fall and Trayton caught her in his arms, supporting her so she could rest. He could feel her body relax and loosen up as she slipped into unconsciousness. Trayton didn't care about the punishment the criminals would get right now, he just wanted Miiko to be okay. He looked Karin in the eyes. "The doctors can heal her, right?" He asked pleadingly. tears were just beginning to form in his own eyes, he had never cried for another person before, he had never had someone to cry for, it felt strange to Trayton.

Sirens could be heard as the police and ambulance pulled into the school yard. By this point, Trayton had forgotten his own wound, where one of the men had shot him in the arm.
