Sophia glanced at her watch. The line was moving slowly and she was eager to get home. ''Why are people so slow today'' she thought. There were three people in front of her and the lady at the checkout was desperately searching in her hand bag for some money. Sophia grabbed a packet of peppermint gum from the shelf beside her and put it in her basket. ''might as well get something for myself while i'm here'' she grinned.

She spotted two people from the corner of her eye. ''Oh no'' she sighed as she instantly recognized them as Wednesday Lester and James Jenkins. She knew them from school and it was a well known fact that James had a crush on Wednesday, But Sophia wasn't sure if Wednesday knew it yet.

She was aware that she looked awful and had her head down so that they might not see her. But when James pointed her, she realized that they were walking towards her. She felt that it would be rude to ignore them, so she paused her IPod, took off her headphones and waved. ''Hey'' she called tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. she noticed that they were buying a lot of soda, but decided not to say anything. ''Hows life?'' she asked. Trying her best to make conversation.
