Although Ella was used to spending summers with The White's, it did get overwhelming sometimes to listen to so many people at once. At home, it was usually just her, Lyla and Sarah, and with Sarah being so quiet and Lyla preferring to hang out with her friends, things were usually pretty low key. Her mother would come home around dinner time and her there were days when Ella would go to bed before her father even got home. Jason had spent the past few years at school so she really only saw him on holiday breaks, leaving Ella to spend most of her time with a nanny or watching TV and occupying herself. Now, the amount of people that she was living with had doubled and while she loved having people to talk to, it also meant that there would be more arguments.

It was only the first day and her brother and Jack were already being mean to each other, and Ella was aware of the friction between Lyla and Alexandra, and even Lyla and Sarah as well. She could be a brat at times herself, but she didn't have any ongoing feuds with any of the others and Ella guessed that it was because she was so young. Even though she was only two years younger than Sarah and Alexander, she sometimes felt like they were a lot older and that she didn't really have a set place. Once Alexander and Sarah started dating, they moved up from being part of the "little kids" with her, and into the "older kids" group. Ella wasn't extremely close with either of them, especially Alexander, so it wasn't a huge deal, but she kind of felt left out with having no one her age to hang out with. She did have Lyla though, and recently, that was enough for Ella to be happy with.

Jason explained to her that Lyla wasn't able to take her shopping because she was grounded, but Ella turned to Lyla, hoping that her sister would give her a different answer. Being grounded hadn't stopped Lyla from doing what she wanted to do in the past and Jack seemed to be right. Her parents were far away and would never know if Lyla broke the rules. It seemed to make sense to Ella, even though she knew that it was wrong to go against her parents' wishes.

Ella hadn't noticed that Alexander and Sarah had left the room until Sarah came running down the stairs and straight to William. She watched as the two joked around, tickling and jumping on top of each other before Will had Sarah pinned to the floor, looking like he was about to spit on her. "You guys are gross," she scoffed.

In all of the commotion, Ella figured that it would be a good time to dump her plate without Jason noticing that she had wasted yet another plateful of food without eating more than a bite, so she quickly emptied it into the trash and dropped the dish into the sink, knowing that someone would take care of washing it later.
