Sophia stepped out from her Grandmother's stratus with sudden content that left her beaming even more so when she found out she'd gotten a full scholarship to L.A University. She felt rejoined and exhilarated all at once something she had never felt in years after first hearing from her doctor that she was diagnosed with cancer. She'd never forget that day as if those very news was her first instinct that her life would never be the same, and to Sophia it was beginning to be true.
She pulled out the last suitcase from within the trunk; setting it beside her, then closed the hood and turned around to face her Grammy who'd already tried her best to hold back the tears. Sophia worked up enough courage to pull her fragile body in a hug. She felt her Grandma's body stiffed just a bit before she wrapped her arms around her beloved granddaughter. "I love you Grammy. I'll come visit, I promise." She told her; whispering through her gray hair. For a second, sophia could've sworn she heard a low whimper escape from her Grandma's mouth. "Oh, don't mind me dear," she said in her upmost sweet voice like honey which only made Sophia missing her Grandmother ever worse. "I'll always have Mr.Whiskers to keep me company." She left go. "Now go along. I wouldn't want to keep you waiting." Sophia stood there staring back at the hurt in her Grandmothers eyes that matched hers. A minute passed. Two. At that, she slung her back over her shoulder, gripped the handles on her two suitcases and was off. Away from her Grandma. Away from her old life to walk into the new life that awaited her just ahead. Just a few feet away she heard her Grandmother calling her. She whirled around just in time to catch a bottle of asprins in air. She rolled the bottle between her palms before glancing up; giving her Grandma one last smile before heading up to the quad.
The first person who Sophia saw was Jonathon scanning the quad for anyone who seemed familiar, and to her surprise she immediately felt the world lifting off her shoulders as she approached him; quickly wiping at her tears as she went.
