❝ Apathy is a sort of living oblivion.❞
-Horace Greeley
- ____Hitomi awoke to the sound of the rather unpleasant chirps of birds, and try as she might she could not ignore them. ’As if I needed another reason not to get up today.’ But despite her unwillingness to awake alongside the fair sun she had to, and thus with a grumble she made her way downstairs. She greeted her father as always, but the tone in her voice held a sort of malice in it. Hitomi put her violin case stacked on top of her luggage by the front door alongside her shoes, and then went to the kitchen.
”Please make sure to feed the dog. It’s used to being fed twice a day, and breaking its eating habits may cause resentment.” and once more she spoke in a manner one would never expect a girl her age to talk. With a sigh she finished eating the cereal her father had poured for her and then put it in the dishwasher. ”Duly noted,” her father took a sip of his too hot coffee, ”Don’t forget to report your findings Hitomi.”
”I won’t Father.” she yelled as she made her way to the front door, trying to quickly put her shoes on. ”Good. I love you, please be safe." but as the words formed at his lips she grabbed her suitcase was out the door trying to pretend she didn't hear what her father had said. In truth while she didn’t mind her father signing her up for the investigation, she would rather him not have. It wasn’t that she was heartless, although many would like to beg to differ, she just didn’t care.
”Love. If he loved me he wouldn’t have forgotten about me for eight years.” dismissing that train of thought though she slowly walked toward the location of her new school, Springward Academy, for the exceptionally gifted. Hitomi wanted to laugh at that but held it in knowing she would look odd doing so.
The walk from her house to the school was nothing short of treacherous, but she made it, an hour late but there nonetheless. And Hitomi was sure the school would make an exception for a new arrival right? She tried to convince herself of that but knew that the other investigators Agent Toshiro and Agent Miyazawa probably were on time. Although, she wasn’t too sure for she barely knew them or their penchant for tardiness.
The gate for the school was elaborate as she expected it to be, but what truly fascinated her was the tree lined dirt path way to the school. Why did they need that? Oh right, for the richer more elite students.
As she walked to the entrance Hitomi noticed a lack of maps, and for that reason she was completely and utterly lost. With yet another sigh she walked out the double doors of the school and tried to possibly find someone who could direct her to where she needed to be.
Minutes of aimless walking she finally stumbled upon the back of the school where a few students seem to litter the area. A boy with snow white hair was looking up into a tree where very faintly she saw the outline of yet another person. ”That’s very unsafe, he could fall. she wanted to say but kept the thought to herself. After all she wasn’t their mother.
Next to the boy on the ground though was a male with yellow hair seemingly playing on a portable device. Hitomi didn’t want to bother any of them, but the kid with the snowy hair looked the most approachable.
With a tap to his shoulder she asked the million dollar question, “I’m sorry for disturbing you, but could you please direct me to the main office?”
