Victoria felt the need to almost cower in fear in the corner of the room. Summoning all of her might, she managed to stay where she was, but she dared not look her roommate directly in the eye. When the girl touched her hands, she felt a bizarre electricity buzz through her. Victoria withdrew her hands in surprise. She managed to hold Eolande's gaze for a small while, and saw how hurt she was about her uneaten sweets. Truthfully, the thought that they were for Victoria hadn't even crossed her mind. She assumed that the girl had made them for herself, or maybe to greet the neighbors or the teachers the next morning. Certainly not for her.
With immense difficulty, Victoria smiled. "I'm sorry. I didn't know they were for me," she said in a voice barely above a whisper. She could feel the blood reddening her face as she tried to speak. The music in her headphones continued to play but did little to keep her calm. Quickly, Victoria grabbed a handful, roughly three or so, and stuffed them into her mouth. She moaned in delight over the sweets, taking her time to savor them while Eolande watched her. Victoria counted her lucky stars that they weren't spicy or bitter; she wouldn't have been able to stand it for too long if they were. A horrific thought crossed her mind; some cultures made sweets with spicy hot flavor in them. That thought paralyzed her jaw. She stared awkwardly at Eolande with a mouthful of sweets.
