Do you trust me? That was a very hard thing to ask a child. Especially one who had been abandoned and abused; trust was something to be earned and Reyna hardly confided in anyone. She had misplaced her faith again and again, but if Xandre could truly do what he was claiming and she needed to have full confidence in him for it to be done then Reyna would have no other choice. Otherwise they would be taken back to the facility and the consequences would be even worse. "Yes," Reyna managed to get out through grit teeth. Whether it was a lie or not, not even she could tell.
If one stuck with a lie long enough, it eventually became truth. Or at least that's what her mother had once told her. The woman often believed that her husband was unfaithful and even though she knew, she would put on airs and appear as happy and carefree as always while hiding the fact that she knew her husband was an unfaithful liar. Mrs. Wynter had waited, hoping to catch him in the act but both of her parents had been killed the night she had been taken, so her mother never did find out whether her husband was having an affair. It had sparked quite a rage and Reyna had killed three people before they could subdue her upon seeing her dead parents on the floor.
Do your best Reyna thought to Xandre as the girl could no longer open her mouth. She attempted to relax, but whatever was in her system made her muscles clench up and lock so she couldn't move.
