"We'll have to go through Arlyne country. I don't think we'll run into any if we stay away from the main crossings. I know of one that shouldn't be watched" Nova said decisively, feeling that some kind of definitive plan were needed for this downtrodden lot. He was more than aware of the heavy air that had descended on the group, it had come as quickly as the fiery aggression that had suddenly enveloped him and Dey earlier. Pulling his own emotions in and locking them down behind a neutral facade, he covered Dey's embers as soon as she was done as to not leave behind evidence, and began to move down the waterway.
As prominent of a role as rivers, lakes, and streams had been in their journey so far, Nova feared that fresh water and more importantly food would be in scarce supply once they entered into the maze of cliffs. Sure there would be springs, for those who knew where to look. There were settlements and roads of course, but they would have to stay off of those if they wanted to lose track of their pursuers. From the time he had spent with the Dimitrios, he learned that their land was rugged and could seem quite arid, with enough crags and twists that any wolf not carrying a string behind him would never be able to double back. Landslides could occur at whim. Rockfalls were sure to block their path more than once. Caves could offer peace and safety, but go in too far and you would find the ghoulish Dhvani, a wolf pack that the Dimitrios regarded as half savage.
Lost in his thoughts, Nova almost didn't notice the reeds in the river that had begun to poke through the surface. Sure there were reeds all along the bank, but these were in the middle of the stream, evidence that it was shallow enough there for plants to grow without being drowned. It was their crossing. No Arlyne had been seen around so far, but those wolves didn't just stick to land. Nova didn't fancy they would like seeing Durandel and himself again after their last warning. Hopefully they didn't lead Dey into senseless capture.
"Come on now. Keep quiet. Remember, the water has eyes here" Nova warned, before dipping his paws into the river and beginning to cross.
