Zero tensed at the other's accusations, surprised at how it stung. He'd never hurt her. Why did this kid automatically think it was him?
"I don't." Zero let out on a hiss. He lowered his vector away from him, he isn't a being.
Never mind him, Zero turned his attention on the doctor. He seemed concerned, was he like Doc, did he subject humans to weird medicines and shots? Or help them, help them get better. Maybe he did, enough to offer assistance.
Zero took a breath, there was no time her pulse was skipping too. He approached the bed, she was still but her features revealed her silent agony. He touched her head, she was too hot, humans can't survive when their temperatures hike a certain limit.
"Please, save her." He tucked her windswept, shortened strands out her face, they were damp at his finger tips. His knees gave beneath him, a weight that forced him to the ground.
Loretta... Dying?
The world see-sawed, he couldn't move, his heart threatened to burst from him. It was worse than any nightmare, it knocked him down, left him shaken. How could this happen? How did it get to this? She's safer with him than without him. And she was all he had.
He was supposed to keep her safe. He promise he would and here he went. Breaking it.
Maybe that's why she was so angered, that and the festering poison that was Maddox's lies.
"... I can't lose her." He blinked away the warmth in his eyes, damn, it was hard to keep the mask on when it was already cracked. When pieces of him kept falling away into nothing and the hits didn't stop. Like the world wanted him to shatter. Wanted him to break again.
