Zero never left her side, he watched the doctor do his thing and explain the process. He didn't want to watch as each necessary injection was administered but he couldn't avert his gaze because he had to watch. Make sure everything was going exactly as expressed.
He didn't speak, all he could do was watch her. He was still shaky and wrung out, he pulled the vectors as they drained him.
No, he wasn't lucky, he never was. But she was, unbelievably so.
Then Xavier was back with a mug of something warm, the scent of blood made his head spin. Wait, when did he leave? Zero shook his head, he didn't want to risk if there was something else in it. Even if he did accept his stomach wasn't up for it, too knotted up.
Then he asked something, take him? Like out the country "take" him?
This kid.
But the doctor cut him a warning, and Zero sighed. Yeah, this wasn't what he was still here for. All he wanted was Loretta, all he gave a rat's ass about was her. Nothing else. But humans were born to be free and he believed in that right.
All of them.
He rubbed at the back of his neck, muscles tense beneath his touch. His gaze lingered on her.
"You don't want that, not really." Zero said after a long pause. "And if you do, you're lying to yourself."
