Hinata and Chitose stood in the hall of the hospital, worrying in awkward silence until the doctors came to talk to them. The two rushed to Makoto's side the second they were allowed, and their expressions softened in seeing his sleeping face, peaceful and calm. Hina listened to Chi's words and frowned slightly. "Yuzuki was my friend, and I should have known she'd be like this." Seconds later, Risa came racing in, and Chitose explained everything to her. XX
The entire time the two females were talking, Hinata was lost in thought. He couldn't seem to get two specific scenes out of his head. Makoto's first death was stabbing daggers into his conscience, as it had been his fault for not making Makko stay behind during the war. And what had happened today, hadn't that been his fault as well? After all, he had been the reason why Yuzuki had hated Makoto so fervently, even if he hadn't known about it. XX
Hinata slipped out of the room and sat on a bench in the hallway, his fingers gripping the hem of his shirt. It wasn't long before Risa came out as well. "Risa-san." Hinata spoke quietly, his voice cracking. "It almost happened again. He almost died again." Despite how much he'd cried already, Hina was choking back tears, staring holes into the floor and refusing to let them fall. "I honestly don't know if I'm what's best for him anymore. All I've done is cause him pain..." Hinata couldn't see Risa's expression, but he doubted that it was a happy one, and he knew she'd probably be furious with him. Way back when, she'd been the only other Angel who'd tried to talk to him, and had gone postal when she found out he'd blamed himself for Makoto's death. XX
"I think perhaps it'd be better for him to fall in love with someone else, someone who doesn't keep secrets and won't put him in danger. It'd be safer..." XX
