The morning soon approached and it hardly seemed that such a dreadful day has just passed. It was lucky that Makoto didn't have any bad dreams last night. He really had to pay a psychiatrist and a swimming coach a visit so that he could get over his fear of water, because it has been giving him nothing but trouble since he was small, and he doesn't want other people to worried much about himself either.

Ever since last night, Risa had been taking care of all the stuffs that usually it would be Makoto who taken care of them. He'd told her that he was really okay now, but every once in a while, she knows she had to act as a protective mother, no matter how independent her son can be. She'd also paid Yuzuki a visit last night and had made sure that the girl won't scheming things again. Though it doesn't seem that she would let anyone know what she had said or done.

Bidding goodbye to his mom and made his way to school, he was greeted and caught up by Chitose, as usual. But today, it was strange that Hinata didn't show up. Perhaps he had duty today so he got to get there early? Makoto thought. He had been thinking about nothing but the other boy last night. It was Hinata who saved him after all and he was grateful because of that. And, he had also thought about what he had confessed to Yuzuki yesterday. The words from the bottom of his heart. Just thinking of that is already to make him felt happy. I got to thank him, for everything.

For some reasons, both Makoto and Chitose didn't catch sight of Hinata either and he felt somewhat weird because of that. The lessons went on peacefully until school was finished, in the orange shade of twilight. Walking with Chitose towards the gate amongst the crowd of students, Makoto kept looking for Hinata, but he didn't see him anywhere. And finally, he was able to catch the familiar boy at the front gate.

"Hey, Hina-k-" Before he could finished his sentence, Hinata bowed to him and said that they could no longer be friends, much to both Makoto and Chitose shocking. What the other boy said next felt like nothing but knives that pierced through his heart.

It was exactly what his ex-lover once said to him, the day the broke up.

He wanted to say something, but his heart was throbbing too much for him to say anything. He had just gotten over the burden that had pierced his heart so hard, but now, with just a few words, they all come back.

Why do people keep bringing him happiness, then cruelly taking it away from him?

He turned his face to the ground as the stinging pain in his heart soon turned into tears, as it streaming down his cheeks with as if there was no stopping. "Hey, what is the meaning of this, Hinata?! How can you do this to him?" Chitose yelled for Hinata as the boy turned his back and started running.

But then...

"Hina-kun, please listen to me." Makoto shouted to Hinata from behind his back, knowing that as this distant, he might still be listening to him, "I don't know why did you say this to me. It hurts me, but there's nothing that could be more hurting than losing a precious friend who has always been by my side like you. I don't care whether you will keep rejecting me or pushing me away or not, but I will not let anyone came into my life, and then walked away coldly like that ever again. If I've done anything wrong, please tell me. If I hadn't been a good friend, please let me know." Tears are still streaming down his face, but somehow, he'd managed to smile, "Even if you say we're not friends anymore, I will not give up. I believe that the kindness that you've shown me is real. I won't stop until we can be friends again. Please don't forget, Hina-kun!"

Even Chitose was surprised at what her best friend has just said. What Makoto has just said was so painful that some of the other students who were watching also started to cry. But, he doesn't care. Happiness had always come to him so easily, but it always gone away from him as easy because he doesn't know how to grasp it. Makoto doesn't want that. He knows he mustn't sit still and watch as everything he loved disappearing from him like usual. And it's time that he stands up to protect his happiness by his own hands.

When Makoto returned home, Risa knows immediately that something has happened again. But he said that he just wanted to be alone, so she left the apartment to leave her son some space. He doesn't know how he should feel or what he should do anymore. He knows that he was supposed to be hurt and angry at how he was being rejected, all over again. But as the gentle image of Hinata popped up, he just couldn't find it in himself to be mad at him.

Suddenly, the bell rang and cut his stream of thought. He knows that it couldn't be his mom since she got the key, so he wiped his tears and went to the front door to see whoever it was. "May I he-" When Makoto opened his door, he couldn't be more surprised at the one who was standing outside of his apartment. It was a tall, lean, handsome guy with black hair that draped over his eye. And he was holding a bouquet of lilies - Makoto's favorite type of flower. It was Shigeru, his ex-lover.

"It's been a while, Mako-kun." The guy said to him with a gentle smile.

Makoto's expression turned from surprise to a stern, cold one. Even though he did allow Shigeru inside his apartment, he didn't say anything. Shigeru sat down at the kotatsu table and place the bouquet down on it. He used to come here all the time to hang out with Makoto, so you could say that he felt comfortable here as if it was his house.

"How are you doing, Mako-ku-" Shigeru asked, but before he could finished his sentence, Makoto interrupted, "Why did you come here, after having disappeared all these times?" He asked with a cold tone and he didn't even bother to hold back his words, "Please, if you have any business, say it quickly. The one I don't want to see the most right now is you."

"Mako-kun, I know you're mad with me. It's okay to feel so and there's no word that can describe how terrible I felt for what I've said. But please, just hear me. I've always love you and I've never stopped thinking about you no matter how many days we've been separated. Even til now, I'm still thinking about you and there isn't a single day I didn't wish I would see you again." Shigeru said with calm.

"Oh? Then could you please tell me why did you just come up to me and said that we're done?!" Makoto raised his voice in apparent anger. It's rare to see him furious like this. "You cruelly rejected me, leaving me living in a hell for the past three months, and now you're coming back, telling me that you LOVE me. What am I, a toy that you could use to your heart content?!" When he couldn't hold back anymore, he stood up and yell into Shigeru's face.

"The reason why I had to break up with you is because my old man had found out about our relationship. If I didn't do so and agree to move to England to study so that I can inherit my family's company, he won't let you live freely. I couldn't manage to contact you and because I was being watched, I couldn't tell you about it either. There isn't a single day that I didn't feel regret for hurting you, but I have to, so that I can protect you. Now that the old man is dead because of his cancer and the company is now mine, I can return to Japan. I have never lied to you and I swear that I never will." He replied with calm despite Makoto's anger.

Makoto grind his teeth. He felt like he could give the guy a slap on his face. But he managed to holding back when he saw that what the guy said seemed to be genuine. "What do you think you're going to achieve now that you're telling me this? Like you've said before, we're done, right? Why bothering to come here when you're now has a whole company at your disposal? There are plenty of people out there who can satisfy you better than me, why not choosing them instead?"

"Like I've said, I still love you and I always do. So, I hope you can think carefully." He paused a bit before went on, "Please come back to me. I know that it's hard and I know you probably won't forgive me for rejecting you. But if you do, I promise that I will never betray you again. I will protect you and never let anyone hurting you. And I swear it for the honor of my family."

Makoto listened quietly to whatever excuses Shigeru has just made. True enough, it would be too hard for him to forgive his ex-lover for what he did. But then again, he knows that the guy had never lied to him and he can felt his honesty. He stayed silent for a minute before turning to Shigeru, "Please just go home. I... will think about it."

Shigeru gazed at Makoto for few second before tugging him into a hug, much to Makoto's surprise, "I know I've said it for like a thousand time already, but I love you, Mako-kun. If you have any troubles, I will always be there for you. Please call me, okay?" Letting go, Shigeru stood up and left.

The lost warmth that he hadn't felt for so long now is still lingering on his body. Sighing, Makoto laid himself down on the floor while staring at the ceiling. So many things have happened in such a short time so he's totally confused. But for now, he knows that got to fight for his happiness, no matter how futile it may seems.
