Not only could she write, but also read. She could read anything written in her language it seemed. She ceased to amaze. Then she looked up and her smile was instant. She didn't just know him, she was fond of him. A human girl, fond, of him? Shocking. Since when? Surely he'd remember a girl like her even looking at him without holding judgement, without the fear. There was a slight hesitance, something she must have sensed however short lived as it was she moved to a wheelchair. She'd been bed-ridden, was she very ill? Then she was wheeling forwards, eager to draw closer and he stayed put. He didn't shy from her.
She was more than glad to see him awake, even the smile threatened to melt the ice in him, he almost wanted it to. What could have possibly happened for him to forget her? Of all his memories, she was the one person he couldn't remember. Why was that? What sort of amnesia takes away one memory and leaves another?
"I'm sorry." Zero said, he shook his head and tried to smile but his lips barely twitched. There was nothing in him to smile for, this was just harsh. Maybe he shouldn't steal her warmth, maybe he shouldn't say anything at all. But why couldn't he avert his gaze from her? Those eyes, so beautiful, they shimmered like the ocean reflecting the light, and they were focused on him. "I don't deserve your kindness, it's just..." He wouldn't tell her, he couldn't tell her. He shook his head. "Never mind, forget it." He stared at the floor, she was really warm, so the lingering presence he'd sensed actually came from her. It wasn't the room after all. She must have some sort of power to do that, Ren had been right, Loretta was far more extraordinary than she seemed.
