She didn't speak as to avoid awakening the others because she could see the urgency and fear in Lot's eyes, so she lowered her knife and nodded soundlessly to him and stood to her fall height walking after him. She wouldn't pretend that Lot's behaviour didn't make her uneasy. What could have happened? She prayed it be nothing awful, that no pain had afflicted to any of the Gladers but she knew better. She could see in Lot's eyes someone was hurt and if not worse, dead. She followed him loyally, slightly ahead of the other three he'd awoken.
The further they got into the woods, the more her heart filled with dread and by the time she laid her eyes upon Hector's body, she was no longer surprised but still not prepared. She shook her head sorrowfully at the sight and knelt on dry leaves by the body.
"He was stung," She confirmed. Her voice cracked and her heart torn that those were the first words she had to speak that day. She kissed her finger tips and pressed them to his forehead sympathetically but more importantly, out of respect.
"Rest in peace Hec, I'm sorry," She whispered gravely before stepping away noticing how Elliot looked like he wanted to talk to her and she could easily guess why.
As he explained his desire for meeting, Mia understood and agreed on the importance of having an assembly but what unnerved her on how they were going to explain and what they might say. The last thing she wanted was to send the Gladers into a flurry of unforeseen panic and fear. They were owed clarity and a fair decision. It didn't feel right to go to them all unless they had something to tell them, something they could give them to hold on to for comfort.
The brunette turned her chestnut gaze up to him and nodded thoughtfully before she spoke. "I agree, we need to take some form of action as soon as we possibly can but I wouldn't call a meeting unless you know what you're going to say yet Elliot. We don't want to distress anyone, but you're right we need to up are game; before anybody else dies," As she spoke her last sentence she turned her dark gaze to Hector and sighed, shaking her head gently. "That, that shouldn't have happened," She exhaled heavily as she frowned weakly.
She followed Lot at his heel and upon noticing Xavier's agitation and aggressive nature she glared at him warningly.
"Unless you think you could do a better job or have something to bring the table, stay out of it and leave him to it. He's been co-exiting with Grievers longer than any of us, so if anyone knows it's him," She reminded lowly. It was a known fact Mia wasn't someone to push around and consequently this almost instantaneously gave her favourites like Elliot, Maeve and sometimes Nate too, a veil of protection. No one would get a bad word about them edge ways if Mia was in ear shot and if they tried, she'd have no problem with tackling them to the ground till they ate their words.
As the meeting was coordinated and the keepers rolled quietly into the room together, Mia sat to a distance watching everyone's expressions and reactions as they gathered. She then waited very patiently for Lot to speak. Though she didn't have to wait long, what he said came to her with a certain element of shock and surprise and the uproar was expectable and something she would have assumed Lot was capable of foreseeing.
"Everyone, be quiet. Even I'll admit the idea seems half rash but-," She continued looking at Lot so he knew he had her support. "Assuming we exercise our best tactics and plan wisely, it could be effective. No one is suggesting this is rushed or unplanned. We'll of course do everything we can to minimize the risks and plan accordingly but I don't think it's an idea to completely cast aside. Anything any of you want to say or add, please say it but for heaven's sake be respectful and don't all speak at once; we're not children, okay? Lot's only trying to think of what's best and how we can protect ourselves and not all end up purpled veined and stone cold like Hector and all the others we've lost before. So please, just think twice," Despite her upset over the loss of another innocent Glader, her presence as always was a calm one and her aura tranquil and controlled. Even though she was one of the more emotional Gladers, she was one of the most private and collected too. It was the main reason most people found it so easy to respect her and appreciate her as a superior rank.
