ColinSanders # 3 F 9 E 8 6 Colin was almost always late, and it was never his fault. ...Usually. Take that night, for example. He'd been ready to leave for an hour. He was so sure that this time, he would finally be early, and he could be waiting at the dock in his dad's boat when Amber showed up. It hadn't exactly worked out that way. He should have been there five minutes ago, but instead, he'd barely gotten out the door. In the past half hour, his mother had stopped him in the entry way a total of 19 times with outrageous suggestions and things he might have forgotten to pack, but hadn't. And that's not counting the times she made him change his clothes, because apparently it's too cold for him to be wearing shorts but too hot for him to be wearing a black batman shirt. He's pretty sure the last bit was a thinly veiled excuse for her to put him in something she designed, but that's not the point. He was running late again, and it was all her fault.
He finally finished loading everything into the boat, and breathed a sigh of relief. Honestly, he'd half expected his mom to come running down to the shore with a sewing kit, screaming at him to wait. The thought had him rushing to jump into the boat, just as his phone went off.
Colin's face lit up immediately, recognizing the custom tone that meant he'd just received a text from Amber. He read it over quickly, and laughed, typing out a response as he settled into the boat.
Hey, at least your mother would never find you. After a split second, he realized there should have been more to that message, and quickly sent another text to reassure her.
Be there in two minutes or you get extra smores! He then shoved his phone safely into his pocket and hurried to the pier, probably faster than he should have been going but he felt bad about being late, even if it was only by a few minutes. When he got there, water splashed up behind him as he turned to pull up along side her. A wide grin spread across his face, and he gave a grand wave, standing to help his friend into the boat. "Your chariot awaits!"
